I just ordered this really cheap for fun. I don't own or want a DSLR. But i want to play around with video and pictures.
I got a 16mm pancake lens and a fisheye converter. Anyone have this camera. Got any suggestions for lenses? Im sick of these photography nerds. I just want to have fun I don't need the best blah blah.

Just remember that 16mm isn't great.
It's very soft wide open at 2.8, you'll want to stop it down to f4 for pretty much all the time. It's great at high iOS so it's not much of a problem.Lens wise the sigma primes anger decent reviews, like the 30mm 2.8. They are very cheap too.
The Sony 50mm f1.8 iirc gets mediocore reviews, not amazing but not bad.
For the full range the official Sony 18-200mm is ok, but the tamron 18-200mm is cheaper and lighter and is optically just as good.
But check out some reviews and judge for yourself! :)

^^Thanks! Im looking for a good street photography style lens. I thought going wide angle and fisheye would be fun, but I don't know. 35mm seems to be a popular all around lens.
I wouldn't mind going manual focus and getting a good vintage lens.

Someone needs to make a practical photography blog with people with friends and lives. Every blog is full of test shots of trees, backyards and bedrooms.

You're v welcome!
Oooo if you're going manual focus your open to loads of good lenses! And super cheap. The most popular lens family to be used with these modern cams via a converter are the canon FD, Olympus OM and Minolta MD.
The canon FD seem most popular though. There is also Konica hexanon which seems to pop up too.I've got a coupe of Olympus OMs and a Canon FD macro (which is incredibly sharp). The Olympus tend to be smaller and lighter, but they are all very good.
But manually focusing can be a ball ache if you aren't used to it!
The 5n is a great cam so I look forward to seeing your pics in the recent pics thread :)

I am really interested in this Russian glass MIR. They are lenses for Pentax and they sell for cheap and the adaptors are cheap as well. Check out this video. Using a 550D and a Glidetrack

- Ha! I remember wanting this.duckseason
- I felt so awesome with it. Had it at FlashFoward NYC in 2001, it was a head turner.mg33
- I worked in a camera store when this came out. There was much debate surrounding it possibly replacing their floppy disc cameras!nb

I picked up a cheap Olympus Zuiko 1.4 50mm lens from ebay, you need an adaptor with it though which adds well over an inch to the size.
To be honest, I mostly use the kit lens which is totally fine, though I find myself double checking the focus as the autofocus isn't the best. Handy hint if you're street shooting the start up isn't automatic, I usually switch my camera on and wait a second or two before bringing it up to my face to use otherwise you're staring at a black screen till the camera comes on.

for street shooting, does anyone try a 24mm manual focus prime, set at 10 feet or so, and F8...... on this sony?

Yeah, I use a manual 25mm on a NEX & just pre-focus etc. Works great, & is all you need for street work. I have a 35mm but don't use it much, it's a bit too long for the narrow and crowded streets of London.I used these lenses (Voigtlanders) with a 5N but found that camera is annoyingly sluggish compared to a modest NEX 3, so I just got rid of it and downsized. It's a great camera for the price but took about two seconds to switch on and be ready to shoot, which is pants.
I hear the new version, the 5R is faster. :)
I recommend the 25mm Voigtlander — tiny black thing, unobtrusive, draws beautifully, terrific value for the modest price, poor man's Leica I guess. It's f4 which, again, realistically for fast pre-focused street work, is as wide as you'd go anyway. Usually it's f8 all the way if the light's available.
- thanks for the info!... especially about the startup time...vaxorcist
