- but. you did post!twokids
- In fact, if you did not read this post, why did you place a did not read video here? How do you even decide to do that?twokids
- Has anyone ever fallen for this? Of course you read it.animatedgif

the point really is - all the companies that are sitting on top of the world for a few years, better look in the rear view mirror. somthing is coming.
Remember AOL? they seemed impregnable for a time
Remember Blockbuster? They were on every corner, seemingly invincible?
Remember Microsoft? They defined Tech for a period of time.- Microsoft is still doing incredible well.rootlock
- SO well. Their stock price is exactly what it was in 2000.monospaced
- exactly. And they just had a record quarter.rootlock
- Apple had what, like, 10 record quarters and they're failing? Microsoft has their first and they're doing well?monospaced
- apple is failing? don't think so. Microsoft 2012 profit 6 b.rootlock
- Exactly, Apple's not failing, but you wouldn't know that after reading hundreds of articles saying they are done.monospaced
- Apple posted $36 in one quarter, 6x more than MS in an entire year.monospaced
- I don't how anyone can agree with how companies like AOL and MS have fallen from grace, and not see that the same will eventually happen to Apple.ETM
- stock value isn't the only indicator of a healthy company.plash
- same will happen to Apple. It only comes down to whether companies can climb up again after a dip.ETM
- It's not an endless rise and/or plateau. It's always a wave. Anyone understanding business or stocks knows this.ETM
- @plash... you bastard. Don't interrupt! :)ETM
- lol sorryplash
- Microsoft pays enormous dividends. It's a better stock to hold if you want profit.zarkonite
- Yes. 13c is huge compared to apples $2+monospaced
- It depends short term vs long-term and if Apple will continue to offer dividends.ETM

This article assumes that Apple will simply continue to produce iphones indefinitely. I think the author will have to swallow his words when Apple revolutionizes the television marketplace just as it did the smartphone marketplace.
- lumedia0
^ I'm sure the only thing delaying the Apple TV is media licensing, but once they get the execs at the major media producers to realize that change is coming, they will have accomplished everything that Netflix, Hulu etc have been unsucessfully trying to do.

I actually see Apple moving more in the total automation world. Siri on the iPhone can be thought of almost like a beta test. It's improving, Apple is obviously pouring tons of R&D into it (see new job postings), and it's being integrated into vehicles left and right. With that being said, I can see them moving into the home space to add voice commands to everyday things, like in futuristic movies. Walk into your home and say, "Play my favorite playlist, set the heat to 70, turn on the newest episode of my favorite show, and preheat the oven to 350," and let it all work and maybe even respond.
- you have a lot of shares?sine
- depends on what you consider a lotmonospaced
- Well if it's in the hundreds, it won;t be a retirement fund.ETM
- if it were in the hundreds I'd have enough to buy a house right now.monospaced
- My AAPL stock has appreciated by 1000%. Definitely a retirement fund.monospaced
- 1000% is total BS. Do you know how to calculate stock appreciation??ETM
- At current value, $457.35, and lets say you had them 5 years, means you got them at around $41 each.ETM
- The recent historical low is around $79.14 in 2008. Unless you bought them back in the late 90s when they were as low as $5.ETM
- $5. If you bought them 10-15 years ago, then I apologize.ETM
- I bought them around $50.monospaced
- I know ALL about percentages. I've been trading for decades.monospaced
- I bought 50 shares at $50 right before the iPhone came out, and that was barely 7 years ago.monospaced
- You think you're so badass saying their low is $79 in '08, then jumped to the '90s. It was like $5 in 2003. I bought then too.monospaced
- bought then also.monospaced
- I clearly said "recent historical low"... 5 year period. I also said I apologize if you bought them further back than that.ETM
- Not sure how it could be much clearer.ETM
- You do have more than the 50 shares though, right? Only curious because you have mentioned retirement fund.ETM
- However, 50 a tidy sum, $2500 in, $23k out (currently).ETM
- exactly, and I didn't mean to imply i"d retire, just taht it made me a buttload of cashmonospaced

I see high-ppi displays on Android phones and tablets but is there an equivalent on desktop outside of OSX?
Does recent Windows even work with Retina displays?
I might be biased, I always thought Retina was just a gimmick but ever since I got a Retina-equipped phone I want to take it behind middle school and get it pregnant, it looks so tight...
- You want to have sex with a phone.mg33
- Win 8 works on retina after changing the settings to not use 1:1 pixels.

I thought stock price was a problem of the stockholders, not Apple's. Apple is just busy stockpiling money.
- Apply is nothing without its shareholders. That's what a public company is - they have to answer to Wall Street.formed
- No. Shareholders are Apple's hostages now and there's many of them they're spread too wide to have a single voice.shaft
- Apple is doing brilliantly, better than ever, they have nothing to answer for.shaft

I, too, am waiting for Retina competition. Sadly, the PC world seems to be so flow to adopt/copy innovation. Good with changing strategies mid game (not) and half assed ideas, but that's it.
I am still optmistic that the Surface Pro will allow me to avoid buying a laptop. I need something I can take on trips and do basic editing on. These convertibles look promising, but again, someone has to step up and create one that is good enough for professional use.

This is a good read and goes along with that WSJ article. It caused my boss to switch. Within 2 weeks of customization, his phone is pretty amazing. This is the article that prompted the switch:
AN IPHONE LOVER'S CONFESSION: I SWITCHED TO THE NEXUS 4. COMPLETELY.

The iPhone line alone is bigger than Microsoft's entire business. Think about that for a second. And they make great products (yeah, they do). But that's not good enough for nobody it seems.
It's the pressure from stockholders/investors that can destroy a company. I agree with Mono. Apple need to give everyone the finger and stick to their guns. No Apple, please don't make a massive phablet, TV or cheap iPhone just because everyone is fickle and salivating for the "next big thing". Like a fat american demanding the next special from McDonalds.
Also if Apple aren't the underdog anymore, who is? Google? Samsung? All these guys are fucking juggernauts.
- Funny enough, Microsoft makes over 10 billion per year licensing patents for Android.shaft

so apparently mac pro is being discontinued in Europe as of 1 March due to non compliance with standards here..
I am assuming there is a new one in the pipe line?

Apple is a publicly traded company. That means that they answer to the shareholders. That means that nothing matter more than the bottom line.
Cheap iPhone? If it means they will make more money, they will do it.
Right now, they are riding the wave. Remember it wasn't too long ago that Bill Gates bailed Jobs out. One missed step and Apple's "luster" could falter. If that happens, they will be just another player in a crowded space (and surely still make a gazillion dollars, but they won't be the 'best' anymore).
Same is true with Facebook. They have to come up with the 'next big thing' or they will falter.
Looking forward to Google's X phone! Praying they get it right this time.
- "it wasn't too long ago" it was 16 years ago...animatedgif
- "praying they get it right this time. LOL talk about perspectivesESKEMA
- First, Apple already made tons of missteps, so they've already faltered. Second, what makes you think the X would be different than Android?monospaced
- would be different from Android?monospaced
- By 'get it right' something that is better than their previous effortsformed
- you think they'll ditch Android and start over? you cray craymonospaced

BLAH BLAH BLAH... The truth is Apple ain't going anywhere and it will NEVER be cooler to have a fucking Samsung phone than a IPhone.
I have worked with Samsung products and got to use/test them and they are FUCKING shit... why on earth would i think it's cool to slide my hand across my screen in order to screen shot the page!?!?!
Just big screens and gimicks. Lets see who's still in the game 10 years from now...- Apple will total be embedded into everything : TV, MUSIC and COMMUNICATION. waitnecromation
