It's long, and it's Alex Jones, but he snuck in a camera to the Bohemian Grove retreat, which was the inspiration for the Elysian scenes in season 5.

I haven't seen the new season yet, can't wait to catch up.
However, the more one digs deep into the Clinton era and the endless amount of scandals and cover-ups spanning the last 35-40 years, there is little doubt in my mind that these so called democratic characters that Francis & Claire Underwood represent are based on the lives of Bill and Hillary Clinton. I literally wonder how many people have been murdered on behalf of these cover-ups, including most recently the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia

Season 4 seems to be far better than 3... Already up to ep 13. The best scene in my opinion is watching Freddy become a man in front of the Prez... Actually two scenes with Freddy (with the Prez but also the brief moment with the reporter from the Herald). With every character hellbent on power, vengeance or self-preservation the writers were kind enough to give those two perfect moments to Freddy Hayes.
- The Freddy scene where he taunts Frank is gold.DRIFTMONKEY

- I agree S4 is better than S3, although not as many subplots, the story is far more interesting.nb

ugh. This Agar.io scene?!? Brutal. I can only assume the writers of the show are like, "Ok, the producers are forcing us to write this advertisement into the script, so we're going to make sure it's the worst writing and that everyone can see it.

If anyone sees any Behind The Scenes articles or videos, I'm curious what lenses they're using in Season 4. I know they used to talk a lot about it, but i haven't seen any features on S4 cinematography. I feel like they've stepped it up a notch with a lot of the shots. Looks like your watching medium format. I presume it's high-end wide-aperture primes, plus they seem to be enhancing the DOF with green-screening. Just curious what lenses they're using. There are some pretty wide shots with shallow DOF, and I wonder if they're using some new lenses from previous seasons.
- Particularly the Pete Konczal episodes. Damn good stuff.nb

- Are you asking about the original motive? She was a whore who can name names.DRIFTMONKEY
- Ultimately, I think he did it out of loyalty, so there would never be loose ends out there that tie back to Frank.DRIFTMONKEY
- She can connect F.U. to Russo's arrest, the drinking set-up, which would certainly start an inquiry into Russo's fate.nb
- Also, if interrogated by police she might mention the reporter that questioned her about Frank. And she knows who Doug is. This would end Frank's career.nb

^ Hahahahahahaha.
We should definitely not change democratic policies just because you saw a ridiculous TV show and for some reason think it's "the real ugly truth of what politics is all about."
- bliznutty0
House of Cards really gives the viewer the real ugly truth of what politics is really all about. In a nutshell, a politician uses everyone around them in order to get ahead (even their spouses). They will lie, steal, threaten, and even kill in order to get elected and/or maintain power. No matter how you look at it, the government is a void in the free market which is constantly and competitively being filled by dishonest and deceiving individuals with a thirst for power.
However, we should be able to all take a clear point from Season 3, that all politicians should be limited to a single-term. Allowing multiple terms completely clouds the focus of our elected leaders to the point they don't even do their job while they are in office.. or to the point they try to manipulate voters with ill-forged legislation just to get votes. Point is that the whole system skews at the point elected leaders try to get 're-elected'

So it's all about power, the addiction of power?
What's the premise of Breaking Bad? Same?

The built-in advertising is really ruining it, though. Writing scenes just so they can show off a product, a commercial within the show, takes you right out of it.
No spoilers, I promise: There's a scene where some generic lawyer-type character shows Dunbar the Jordan valley on his tablet. It's the worst scene, yet. Dunbar and her assistant look at him and the tablet with such intensity. He takes a moment to pause to show them a fucking map of Jordan. Dunbar is the Solicitor General of the USA, and he's like, "look at this picture of a map. Jordan. Ever hear of it? Didn't think so." She leans in, her eyes wide with amazement.
Then he says, "here, better yet" or something and walks around his office so that they can show a close-up of the tablet as he swipes the image from his tablet to his TV. Of course, we see the Samsung logo, and it's all done nice and slow. And Dunbar looks at the TV like WOW.
She is impressed. This man knows how to present information with visual aids. Let's hire him, on the spot. "When can you start?" she asks. "I think I just did", he replies all cool like the amazing man that he is.
Anyway, it's really awful, but I guess the show costs a lot of money and they need to pay the bills somehow.

I'm on episode 5. No spoilers here.
The main reason to watch it is the pretty Season 3 looks the best so far, beautiful shots. Far too many camera movements, though. There are some hilarious moments when basic cutaways have camera movements for like a second. It's like David Fincher told them exactly how to film his style, but they stopped listening when he said "don't move the camera unless it helps tell the story."
The story itself is ridiculous, but if you pretend it's just fantasy politics, then it's fine. The last half of Season 2 was also ridiculous, so yeah.
