I said it above ^:
"I don't think we'll see a new system here."
And we didn't...

we got a taste. and eventually we'll get the meal. until then, we'll discuss what we know until we're all nerded out. i
know one thing, even tho i don't know what the thing looks like (yet) i can see what some of these first-gens look like and my wallet is going to suffer dearly, oh lordy...
- Spot on prophetone; seeing the tech demo of the old mans face was such a relief...ideaist
- ...Seeing emotion in gaming!ideaist

Controller looks great. Games look insane. Though yeah, just a taste - building more hype until E3 I guess.

What a gigantic letdown.
Hardware-wise the console seems pretty good, the rumours said they were going to use 4GB of fast GDDR5 ram while the new Xbox would use 8GB of slower DDR3 ram. Sony announced it will have 8GB GDDR5 unified memory, that's a good thing.
But the whole thing was a disaster, announce a new console without showing the console? Square Enix showed a video that was already on the net weeks ago. Bungie/Activision couldn't show anything about Destiny just say they were working on the thing. The only game that I liked was Killzone and the Capcom tech demo. Ubisoft ran a new trailer of a game that was originally going to come out for PS3/360/PC and that didn't look so next-gen.
Overall, I think Sony is afraid of the next Xbox, and I guess MS has quite a few studios tied to announce their games on their event because otherwise I can't explain why this event was so bad.
- Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo are also afraid of Apple/iOS gaming and it's future potential, I believe...ideaist

jonny_quest_lives - ...which is really quite new compared to NES, PS1, XBOX, etc...ideaist
- @ideaist that's true, but Apple hasn't made their big move on the living room yeternexbcn
- ...Touché.
It certainly is exciting to watch it all unfold, though...ideaist - lest we forget apple has already conquered the living room w/ bandai and the PIPPIN!prophetone

Forgot about Diablo 3, a game not even the fans of the thing like it on PC, what the fuck is Blizzard thinking?

Well suddenly I feel a hell of a lot better about the Wii U.

I dunno, I think Nintendo are in a lot of trouble. A decent Zelda/Mario/Metroid game is easily another 18months away... and they don't have great third party support. Plus it's as about as powerful as an 8 year old console. Poor form all 'round.
- nintendo's winning the handheld platform war with 3DS... i've personally been eyeballing itprophetone
- prophetone, i dont know what you mean about 3DS dominating. I have Vita and 3DS, and 3DS is rubbish comp.mantrakid
- I have no interest in any other platform than the wii. To each their own!zarkonite
- the 3DS is selling, the vita is not. why? aside form some apple to oranges stuff, it comes down to games 'n cost.prophetone
- more explaining and junk

As I get older I value the multiplayer experience of video games less and less, mostly due to the fact that I have a family now and can't stay up till the wee hours of the morning, cussing like an irish-man at 12 year olds through my xbox headset. And the majority of my friends are all generally casual gamers as well.
To be honest I much prefer a good single player game these days. I can pause it when the wife starts to get pissed, or the daughter is crying, and generally play when it's convenient for me.
- this is very true. i feel the same and i have friends who are in the same depressing, lame old man situation.prophetone
- it's the circle of life. look at all the social stuff they are baking in the this now. my 6 year old will game in new ways eventually.prophetone
- and i will be a sad, empty hull of what i once was, gripping tightly onto my 80/90's arcade memories and my super famicom.prophetone

some of the demos today reminded me of the feeling i had waaaay back when we were being wowed by the next-level awesomeness of the PS2...
specifically i remember seeing the kessen demo as it was a launch title that was meant to blow minds... if i recall it was all about the PS2 finally allowing for hundreds of random things to be happening at once in a scene thanks to the raw power. anyway i remember kessen melting my face, and i got it right away of course, one of my first games for it.
- I bought the PS2 on launch and though Kessen was a gigantic turd (yes I bought the thing)ernexbcn
- If you had a Dreamcast and bought a PS2 on launch you were going to be disappointed a LOTernexbcn
- PS2 took over a year after launch to be decent, Dreamcast was killed by Sony hype machine with PS2ernexbcn
- yes dreamcast was the shit, still have it and play jet set, crazy taxi, etc.. that says something.prophetone
- and yeah kessen was a bummer after about 10 minsprophetone
