Im sure a lot of these spoilers will end up being wrong, people constantly making stuff up, but I think I should avoid reading some of these deeper story elements that ppl are coming out with.
I dont mind seeing things like what characters look like, ships, blabla, but spoiling the entire story will ruin this a bit for me.

another lightsaber would slide down the blade and just chop off that crossguard since there's no actual beam there. the useful part of the crossguard is just emitter instead of blade

When I first saw that saber from that sith dude it looked silly to me. I always liked the simplicity of the old sabers....
Until I was super fucking bored and listened to a long podcast called "now, this is podcasting", from the guys at makingstarwars.net. Their reaction to the teaser episode.
Theres a lot of spoilers out there with this movie and they talked about the fact that the blade itself looks distorted and unrefined, and the idea that this may be an ancient sith weapon from eons before episode 1, it started to make more sense why it looks like an old broad sword with that crossbar. Like this new sith guy found it and the crystal in it is unrefined. And it was from a time before they removed the crossbar in more modern times.
These guys know way more about star wars than me and apparently these light sabers arent anything new to the SW universe. Idk if thats true but they mentioned that these arent new. Maybe from the comics or novels or something.

I do find it funny though that as good as this movie looks like it could be, JJ is only doing this one. They have a different director for 8 and 9. It kinda mirrors the original trilogy.
Lucas only directed the first one. Ill bet right after JJ finishes this he'll be right on Star Trek 3. But knowing how much he loves star wars you would think he would want to direct the entire trilogy. Wonder why he bailed on that.

I didnt know someone else was doing star trek 3. Which I guess makes me wonder even more why JJ only signed on to do 1 star wars movie. If he didnt have star trek 3 lined up, what more important does he have going on other than this or star trek? Im guessing he will be involved in star wars 8 and 9 since hes like the new lucas n shit i guess
- Maybe he just doesn't want to spend the next decade doing only SW and ST.ETM
