  Marc Maron just did a bit about this on his podcast. About how technology like smart phones are actually making us dumber since we don't have to memorize anything anymore.
  I can remember friends parents numbers from 20 years ago because of the repetition of dialing them over and over again yet I can't remember my wife's cell phone number.
  I also think ever since my town required you ti dial the area code for local calls those extra 3 numbers made it harder for me to memorize.
