Any reason why you posted in PC and PV?

beautifully designed. curious if anyone has actually read the text? there's something very open about it that cause my eye to jump around and not stay focused on reading the story (and I love reading).
- Keeping track of avg time spent on pages. So far avg time is 1:23. No enough to read that chapter.autonoma

Anyone actually read the story yet? Since we started the project I've wondered how difficult it's actually going to be to get people to read long form stories online, and how I can help make it easier.
Outside of the layout of the text (line widths, leading, contrast, etc.) I wonder what tools I could add to make it friendlier (like Readability buttons, etc.).
Hmm.

consider using swelling force to keep the eye on the body copy.

Swelling force?

it's when you place to similar objects around another so your eye is drawn to the one in the center.

More interested in the content than the design...although that is very nice. Really well done.

Which online galleries are people posting sites to these days? I'd love to get as much traffic to this site as possible. Really wanna get some attention on his stories.
- Siteinspire? Feel like this is something I'd see on there. All those other sites - CSSAwards etc.duckseason

Just changed the way the Table of Contents works. Prepping for a big shoutout today.

this is very cool,
bookmarked, I'll read it while I commute :)

I read it last night but I sent it to my iPad using the Pocket app. So it was formatted differently than the site. I honest haven't got the patience to read long form on a web browser -- I get too distracted. That might just be me. I really liked the story, looking forward to the next chapter!

Well done, it's a very well designed and thought out format...not to be crass but would almost make a nice "theme" for writers, etc.

@mathinc - This is actually very good to hear. Knowing that you have a difficult time reading long-form articles in the browser (and believe me, I know we're fighting a losing battle with this), but how can I make it easier for you?
- If you can turn off my IM programs, stop my email from popping up and soothe our baby then I think you're good!mathinc
- K. How about just a loop of white noise when you open the site?autonoma

Jonathan Hoefler just tweeted about it and it's exploding. My face hurts from smiling.

@autonoma - I guess it depends on what your primary goal is with this -- If it's the content or the vessel. But I'm sure you're right that getting people to sit still long enough to actually read the content is going to be your biggest task. If the content is the priority then giving the user easy ways to move the story to a tablet or phone would be a great step. But then again that would compromise the gorgeous site. If the site is the priority then you'll always have competition for the readers attention.. in that case the only thing I can really think of would be short chapters.
