Strange coincidence that it is MLK day, Obama's inaugeration, and also the 150th year after slavery was ended.

THAT'S WHY TRAFFIC WAS SO LIGHT TODAY. MAKES SENSE. OK.

all our clients are closed but we're still expected to work.

I'm working but I do enjoy the lighter than normal traffic commute. Thanks for setting the freeways free MLK!

< Works a university. Faculty and students get the day off. Regular working day for us staff, just a little quieter.

pffff......it's a holiday for banks, schools, and post offices.
My agency will be open :(

All US Gov't workers will get the day off. Most private industries ignore the holiday though.
Black people take the day off regardless of if they get it or not. White people are well... white.
- I work for private engineering firm and don't get the day off BTW.d_rek
- your comment about black people seems a little stereotypicalmonospaced
- The comment about whites though, is spot on.albums
- oh I love ye all QBNmonospaced

"According to a recent survey from the Bloomberg Bureau of National Affairs, about 3 in 10 nonfederal employers will give all or most workers Monday off with pay."

I work for myself, and find that MLK day and presidents day are difficult for me to take off. Since many people are working on those days, I get a lot of emails / phone calls from clients so it always feels like I might as well be working too.
- Crap! I just realized I'm part of the problem, and not the solution to our country taking more days off.nocomply

I'm a freelancer, so depends on me....
my wife works at an african-american owned firm, and NO, she does NOT get MLK day off.... amongst lots of internal company talk...

How do you get your day btw?
is there someone who's still alive whom got a day named after him?
- stoplying0
Don't get off for MLK day, but I do listen to "Mlk" by U2, and hope that one day, they will recognize Billie Jean King day.

At my last company, New Year's Day wasn't officially a holiday either.
Our CEO wanted the corporate office to show "solidarity" with the field.
- mg330
I do.

It also seems like every year some place does this.
