So you know it's the OS. Are you sure you don't have custom DNS in network settings?

Nope it was same settingas as another laptop that I have up and running, except the little ip number difference. Older OS on the new HD install.

Older than the version the Macbook shipped with? If so, it could be support of the hardware/chipset.

If you are at MC Donald's, dont bother. The Wifi connection is shit as hell.

check your network connections in the system prefs

System Preferences ▹ Network ▹ Advanced ▹ Proxies. If any proxies are selected, deselect them, apply your changes, and try again

Also is it just in the browser, or can nothing access the net? Can iTunes, updates etc. go online?
