When I look at the Harvest entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Har…) , they have articles referencing it listed. Do you have any write-ups on Cashboard to post?
The biggest think about Wikipedia is you do not create content about your self, or your products. It's the same with being a celebrity, they don't allow you to create your own page. If you are notable enough, then someone is bound to do it for you. Or so is the general thought.
- Does wikipedia purposely create URLs that are hard to resolve in our systems?ETM
- ETM...look a few posts up. I referenced multiple, credible writeups I posted.sublocked

- Sorry, I did miss that. But at the end of the day, creating a wiki entry that is self-promoting is frowned upon.ETM

It sounds like they are worried about being overwhelmed by spam. So they kill any entry that isn't backed up by full page mentions in well known sources.
It seems counterproductive though - isn't more information better?

Start small? So, maybe ask a friend to create a "stub" for your company?
I'm no expert, though. (Maybe I'll read the Wikipedia entry on creating Wikipedia entries.)
- All of that just seems so backwards. Pay/ask a 3rd party to cover your company so people don't hate? What a load of shit.sublocked
- If there's good word of mouth for your product, you shouldn't fret. The system works.waterhouse

Maybe create an entry for your software category and include yourself and your competitors in it?
- ^ Already are a few...and the reason I started this whole thing.sublocked

Are your competitors listed on Wikipedia?

^ of course obviously it wasn't, or it wouldn't have been deleted. I was honestly asking here to see if anyone had experience getting things to stick. Everyone seems to be approach it from the noob angle, just like me.
- I don't think there is any trick, except that they have a high bar to accepting thingsukit2

^There's another idea, tough guy.
Find an appropriate place to name your product in an existing article.
(Has it sponsored an event? Is it on a "best of..." List somewhere? Etc.)

Whatever, maybe I "just don't get it". Thanks for the responses, helpful or not. I'm gonna get some booze and get back to work.

Yeah I sponsor Rails Rumble pretty much every year.

Also mentioned all the places here: http://pastebin.com/5d91mi8Z
(seems qbn wont let me post a shitload of links)
Anyway, it's all GigaOM, LifeHacker, Mashable, The Sydney Morning Herald, Web Worker Daily, etc.
Honestly I haven't been keeping up pumping my newest updates to PR people, so those are all 2007-08 but still that should be sufficient in my eyes?

Since Wiki is run by volunteers, you could infiltrate it, and become the person deciding what to keep. More of a long term strategy:)

So you lot know shit all about it, just like me then eh?

Maybe you try a donation?

It's more than a website. It is like a temple for the mind.
