I have a friend who in talks to come over and work in Edinburgh.
I know there's a couple Scots on here, (Looks at Chossy even though I think he's from Glasgow) and I'm hoping I can help him figure out how much money to ask for.
So if anyone could let me know about avg. rent, council tax, transportation, expenses... that would be most appreciated.
What does he do for a living?
Avg. Rent - For a nice flat with 2 beds and in the city centre / leith you'd be about £750-£950
Council Tax - It depends on where you are in the city and your size of property. Average about £200-250 p/m
Buses are £2 per journey any distance I think. You can get cards to get you a few quid off each month. Edinburgh is very walk-able and cycle-able (as long as you don't mind steep hills).
If you've got a car and want to park it in the City Centre you'll be about £250 per year for a parking permit.
As with any city it has expensive areas, restaurants, bars etc but equally it has cheaper places - after all Edinburgh has plenty of uni's and students to keep happy.
Very nice city to live and work in.
one of only three places I've though I could settle in. Southport, NY and Edinburgh
cool, thanks 23kon
He does DNA research ... talking to some education/research facility but the name escapes me.
self bump for PM UK peoples
Glasgow is smiles/junkies better.
But yeah, Edinburgh is compact and you can walk most places. More expensive than Glasgow but cheaper than London.
