I have a virtual machine on VMware with Windows XP. It has one snapshot with IE7 and another with IE8.
I make them work, but soon I'm going to up the threshold to IE8.

Supporting IE7 is what keeps it alive. Google's rule is to support two recent major versions of a browser, which would limit IE to 9 and 10. It is a very healthy approach.
Here's the fun part: IE10 is already here and — surprise ! — it blows.

I don't support or test for IE 7 anymore unless the client specifically requests it.
When I only have a limited amount of time to work on a website, I concentrate on things that will make it more future-proof rather than troubleshooting browsers of the past.
I do check all of my work in IE 8, 9 and 10 though.

This is a good talking point for clients
"Facebook has joined the likes of Google, YouTube and a growing list of other websites who no longer support IE7"

depends on how much of the functionality depends on it.
Progressive enhancement normally means that its not an issue. Why dont you try debugging it? It could be a case of a missing semi-colon or something
