looks like Google did a slight redesign of their search results page.
compare the search results page to the news page, no more underlines, darker blue and green.

so apparently you have to do some backdoor nonsense to turn it off:

The order placement of "Images" "Shopping" "News" Videos" "Maps" shifts around based on what you search for. It's been like this for a while and I still hate it. Annoying when you go to click something you think is there and it's something else. Google is always trying to predict what you want, but they just end up getting in the way.
- Did you mean "getting in the hay"? Here are all the results for that thing you didn't search for:i_monk

I changed by Google password for the first time. Now it's over 20 characters long, a mix of letters and symbols and numbers. Good luck hackers!

European parliament set to call for break-up of Google in antitrust case
http://www.theguardian.com/techn…
The European Commission has been investigating concerns that Google has abused its dominant position in search since 2010 and the dispute has become increasingly bitter. In September the EU’s incoming digital commissioner Günther Oettinger warned that any settlement with Google could “cement its strength in the market rather than diluting it”.
