Skills & Expertise, LinkedIn 11 Response

Anybody noticed any new phenomena on LinkedIn that might explain the motivation for adding the 'skills & expertise' tags to profiles?
I've just been emailed by a company suggesting we meet and talk about potential opportunities. Odd, because the opportunity in question is for a designer. I haven't been a designer for about 12 years now, but I have a few related S&E tabs on my profile.
Is this the purpose of the tabs? to enable LinkedIn to offered filtered, automated recruitment call-outs to companies via auto-selected profiles?
The email I received is written in such a way that it is impossible to tell whether it was a generic one that my name was dropped into automatically or a specific email to me.
Just wondering if anyone else has received such emails or is it just that I'm so incredibly awesome?
