High Sierra (10.13.1) — Anyone upgrade yet? Will it brick my MBP (Late 2013, 2.6GHz Intel Core i7, 16GIG RAM)?

    currently sitting on Sierra 10.12.6

    • Don't do it!instrmntl
    • if your working with that machine i would wait.GuyFawkes
    • I have a 2011, it did make it faster & much smoother. BUT! I had a corruption with the install and had to reinstall everything. So make sure you have a backup.sofakingback
    • The customer service guy said it wasn't necessarily the upgrades fault. It could have already existed on my drive and the install just exposed it.sofakingback
    • k... given ya'llz initial comments and the fact my iPhone 6+ might as well be a brick since the latest upgrade I will stay put... thx <3PonyBoy
    • I'm running 10.13.1 on a late 2013 MBP, 2.0 GHz i7 and 8 GB. Haven't had any issues at all. It's as fast or slow as when I was running Sierra.VectorMasked

    • Kept freezing on install (mbp 2016), no backup, saved by booting into CMD+R, installing High sierra on ext drive, migrating to it, erasing int & migrating backSmurf
    • *after erasing internal drive installed clean install on it from CMD+R and then migrated back from extSmurf
    • Funny enough; my wife has a similar machine and it (the upgrade) locked her out of her account (password issue), so we have to get a manual account reset...ideaist

I feel like if Apple is one of the institutions to survive the coming apocalypse they have a pretty good shot at being the next catholic church.

All they have to do is release some sort of bible-like narrative of their prophet the Jobs-Man, whose vision changed the entire scope of history. That would run for quite a while.

They could also do a ton of revisionist history and positive PR while they're at it. Like instead of needing to build nets to stop their laborers from killing themselves rather than put another iPhone chipset together, it could be about the benevolence of the Jobs-Man willing the nets to save workers who felt they had not fulfilled their duties to his standards and tried to sacrifice themselves in his honor.

Everybody would wear black turtlenecks and ill-fitting jeans.

Really though fuck this entire company and most of their practices, over-rated products and shit head cult following. It better not survive the apocalypse.

    • Cool story. Amazing how much emotion is put into a company that makes... computers and phones.inteliboy

Got switched over to the iPhone X this weekend and have had no issues getting used to the lack of a home button. It felt very fluid and intuitive from the beginning. Control Center takes a little getting used to at the top right.

Portrait modes are really nice; I’m impressed at the photo quality with them, though, the Studio modes definitely require a solid background and perhaps even a dark background to avoid light leaking around someone’s face.

Didn’t think I’d care at all for the Animojis but my daughter who is almost 3 loves them. Fun to send text messages to her grandparents like that.

As I’m using it more and more I’m realizing one major advantage over a 7 or 8: the keyboard is a little wider and more spread out (I think) and the combo of that and faster hardware / faster OS makes typing so much easier than it was for me lately on my 7.

If you recall I got a Pixel 2 and had it for half a week before I returned it. The Android keyboard was really tough to get used to. I like seeing physical shapes for the characters on iOS. Feels easier to be more accurate. I also love that the alternate keyboard and voice to type icons are at the bottom. I used both on my iPhone 7 and it made the space bar much smaller. It’s quite a bit wider now with those icons at the bottom.

Overall really likening it. The notch is truly a moot point for me. I’m past the point of even noticing it. I think all the bloggers and YouTube reviewers obsessing over it just like to hear themselves talk.

    With a case it’s definitely heavier than a 7, but it’s a negligible difference.

    • there are so many great Android keyboards, that's the point with Android, you modify it to suit you prefs, with ios you get what you are given.fadein11

Positive quick fan review for the office iPhone X after a day: arrived yesterday around 8:30am,
activated and fully charged at 11:45am,

Big up for moving to oled, my priority phone is a galaxy s8 edge, I can see the difference and I'm biased rotfl!%

    faceid unlock and swipe:
neeey (butttfuck me it works in the dark with my hoodies on%/ aaand it recognizes my morning face :)

no wireless/cell info on the top: neey - WHAT THE HELL? how can i enabled this?

hughe ass black shit on the top: double NEEEY - fuck me it's annoying

aaaaand the empty space bellow the space key on the opened keyboard: lol RLY?

swipe+hold for tasking:neey (close X is at wtf position)

no home button:yeeeey (it was made for me, get used to it it's like 10mins, )

hughe ass screen: yyeeeeey (4k on a few inches apple eyecandy is working)

speed: fuckin yyeeeeey (for realz it's like running needforspeed 1 on an alienware machine with 1050ti, or booting windows xp on a core-i3 with ssd fast lol)

and our apps running smooth: yeeeeeeeeeeeeeey

trying out various apps, lots of skype, slack, fuckbook mess during the day. left in the office at 4pm with 44% battery. at 8am today battery was at 38%, haven't used the phone functions for a second (on gsm, or 3g data) just to watch my notifications, and some heavy browsing while shitting at the office :).
now i'm playing monument valley, and this piece soapdish doesn't want to be exhausted :F

It really feels good to play with an actually improved device, everything runs smoothly, and it's like they've just been invented the smartphone (hard to explain but i have the same feeling like it was with my first smartphone), experienced users can find some annoying things but everything has improved a lot (except the stolen pixels at the top), so try to grasp it.

i had *.devices in the past so if you're an apple fanboy fuck off lol.:)

I hope any of you with kids that got the iPhone X are letting them play around with the animojis. My daughter is almost 3 and has a blast sending messages to her grandparents like that. I have no personal use for them but it's a blast to see her have so much fun with them.

I've played around with the iPhone X and I've got to say, Apple really nailed it. The UI and interactions are so much tighter and more intuitive than that of the last few iPhones (and Android too, for that matter), and even though I thought not having a Home button was going to be an issue, I started using the phone correctly almost immediately. It was as if it was something I had been doing for years.

I know it's popular to bash Apple right now, but if you're considering a new phone, I'd try to ignore the bandwagon haters and check it out yourselves. Price may be a hurdle, but if you can get past that I think anyone would appreciate the phone's quality. Major kudos to Apple for creating an awesome product.

    • I love apple stuff but I think you're wrong with this one. Oneplus 5t / pixel are mostly better.craigatkinson
