I would probably put it in a case anyways. Not held the new one yet, but the 4 and 4s actually feel too fragile without something around it. The bumper at least gives a little texture that's sticky and stays in your hand.
Like, when jogging, I can't imagine holding the phone without some kind of rubber case that has a good grip. Shame that the phone might be prone to scratching, but I'd rather have a case to protect it.

The fall of Apple.
Too many mistakes without babysitter Steve around.
- When are they gonna fall? I keep waiting but they keep climbing to the top. Please. Be specific.monospaced
- Steve's been dead a year. When did the fall start and how long will it take. How many times must they break records winning first?monospaced
- Also. You talk about Steve like he was a god. He must give you a real boner. Are you sad?monospaced

Mono, like I said, there's no specific date. A "date" is completely irrelevant and you requesting a *specific* date is stupid, and you know it. Moving on... ever since Steve left, they've been making some really crappy decisions. They climbed to the top on Steve's high standards, his ideas, and that momentum is why they are currently on top. This momentum still goes on, and didn't stop the instant Steve died (that's why it's called momentum). They're not going to fall overnight (I never said, or implied they they would). Did Apple pass Microsoft overnight? No. Took about a decade.
Can you tell me anything positive about this latest release? Besides an extra row of icons?
They got rid of an extremely useful Map app and replaced it with something that is unusable, unreliable, and was clearly not ready for release.
The brought in panorama shooting and sold it as if they were the first phone to have it, when they were the last.
They bought out Chomp and hired them on to screw up the app store. When you search, you have to sift through results one by one. And if you try to flick through them too fast, it becomes unresponsive. You have to wait for the sliding animation to completely stop before flicking to the next app. It literally takes ten times longer to find something than the previous store. Have you tried it? This will have a huge impact on app developers' ability to get their apps noticed and purchased.
Their UI is all over the place. They're changing things with no rhyme or reason. Before, the interfaces of a 10-digit pad were consistent (first two jpgs). Now there's a white dialer, with inconsistent colors and fonts. Everything they're doing now is disjointed.
Old ios 5 Dialer:
Passcode Entry:
New ios 6 Dialer:
And they can't decide what they want their interfaces to look like. Below are all sections of the same app. You've got screens with blue backgrounds, blue status bars, corduroy textures, rounded corners, and matte buttons. And then in the SAME app you've also got screens with blacks, grays and glossy buttons. How on Earth do the first two screenshots relate to the last two screenshots?? Again, this is the SAME app.
- New dialer looks shitty, IMOnikdaum
- A date or timeframe is not stupid and you know it.monospaced
- August 19, 2014. No wait, that IS stupid to set a specific date.ETM
- mono, you want me to pick out a date out of thin air when Apple will fall? You're a moron.CanHasQBN
- A date has nothing to do with my opinion.CanHasQBN
- People foresaw the fall of Pontiac, but nobody ever claimed to know an exact "date"...CanHasQBN
- ...because an exact date is completely irrelevant.CanHasQBN

I mean, if you're going to change what a 10-digit number pad looks like in the UI... then change it *everywhere*, not only in the phone app. How they're able to overlook this is beyond my understanding.
This is the kind of shit where Steve would've stepped in and said, "Hey wait a minute you lazy fucks, this doesn't match up. You're fired."
- Nobody gives a shit about that.monospaced
- It's just ONE example out of MANY. It's an example of how this new leadership just doesn't give a shit about the details.CanHasQBN
- and it's the DETAILS, the quality and respect for design that got Apple the respect it deserved.CanHasQBN

You're right in your assessment of the UI design and all that. Won't argue there. But to say they're failing is totally extreme. And you kinda have to be time specific in those statements especially with the rate things are advancing. Saying there will be a decade long decline is naive at best with such a fanatical outlook that you are sharing. Fact is, Apple is doing better than ever. They keep improving and will continue to release new products that people will love and enjoy and find useful. One man did not make or break the company.

Regarding scuffgate, I got my black phone in store yesterday. The first box we opened, the chamfered edge on the front of the phone had two noticeable dings. They swapped it out on the spot, and I was on my way. Screen seems a little warmer in color than the iPhone 4 I had, but none of the issues above. I suspect that coating will get scratched in time, but only from metal objects.

Please tell me you don't have an iPhone.

@ monospaced
You said "One man did not make or break the company."Perhaps you should reread Apple's history and review it's trajectory before and after Steve returned in 97.
- LOTS went wrong under Steve's watch. Don't act like it didn't. Tim's been in charge for a long ass time and has doubled their stock price.monospaced
- Tim is just riding the wave that Steve set up.CanHasQBN

Why is my outlook fanatical? If 10-12 years ago, someone told you Apple would be bigger than Microsoft, would you have believed them? Who is to say another company won't be bigger than Apple in 10 years? You can't be so shortsighted.
Of course Apple is doing better than ever, but it's because of the momentum that Steve left them with. This momentum will last for years. But it will slowly decline with the obvious lack of innovation and disregard for details that the current leadership is showing.
And one man DID make this company. Before Steve stepped back into leadership, Apple was nothing. As soon as he came in, they exploded.

---You sound like an Apple salesman. Did they hypnotize you??

This is what the current Stopwatch looks like (it has never really changed):
And this is what the Stopwatch SHOULD look like based on the other interfaces in the Clock App (I made this in 10 minutes). It now ties in with the World Clock and Alarm:
This is just one example out of many many inconsistencies with their confusing design direction.
There is no excuse for these inconsistencies, especially from a large company like Apple, who employs hundreds of designers and has hundreds of eyes looking at this stuff.
- you sound madmonospaced
- Is that what you say when you realize that someone else might be right? You call them "mad"?CanHasQBN
- Man, if you can't see the blatant laziness going on at Apple right now, you're blind.CanHasQBN
- you act as if when Steve was alive at Apple nothing went wrong, but that's not the case. there were blunders under his watchmonospaced
- Of course there were blunders, but not on this level.CanHasQBN
- They brought no innovations, they took away some useful apps and features, and they couldn't even be bothered enoughCanHasQBN
- enough to fix consistency issues with their UI. There is so much minor shit they should've taken care of, but didn't.CanHasQBN

This is hilarious. People buying phones that are damaged out of the box and fanboys defending Apple over what is clearly a massive fuckup and indicative of shitty practices.
