I hear this a lot, and I trust those who hold this opinion have never criticized a company for "making a business decision that makes them money."
ie - when your telco company fucks you in the ass.

it saddens me to be the one to break it but....

I got the phone today. Only played around with the maps a little bit but I might be the only person who hasn't slated it. I like the subtle things about it, like the transitions as you zoom into streets with the addresses disappearing etc.
Maps is still a work in progress it seems, but I trust Apple will get it right.
Also side note but the phone is seriously light. I love it, definitely a worthwhile update from the 4.
- i'd rather have correct data than nice transitions lolfadein11

This software is v1.0 — after all the complaining I'm sure they'll have a lot of resources working on it to get v1.1, v1.2 out as soon as possible. Google Maps by comparison is on v4.0 at least. Apple had to make the cut from Google Maps at some point. I don't get what people don't understand...
- but surely they shiould have left an alternative ie googlemaps while they finish the job live.fadein11
- I agree with rosem, it's not ideal but it'll be good soon.monospaced

Why settle for a work in progress? They shouldn't have launched this until it was ready – it isn't even usable, if the blog above is any indication.
- I agree. But I think they should ahve pushed harder to get it done sooner. Jobs would have cracked a fucking whip.monospaced
- Thats what I was thinking. This was probably a deadline already scheduled that would have been met if Jobs was alive.instrmntl

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told Macworld:
“Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service. We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover and Siri integration, and free turn-by-turn navigation. We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get. We’re also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.”
- 'even' better!craigatkinson
- sounds like Microsoft. "it sucks now but stick with us and it's going to get better!"zarkonite

Already underway. I hope they integrate transit solutions asap.

iPhone is an amazing machine. Iam not gonna complain or switch just because Maps. Iam using the webApp of Google Maps at the moment and its works A1. Updates will come.
- vuc0
I agree with the benfal.
i_monk you have a valid point, but the beauty of the iPhone's corners has swayed my opinion into buying it now and settling for the update when it comes - that and the fact my 4 is running slower than an elephant in mud.

LOL at this on GIzmodo:
"you just don't need a f*cking case for your iPhone 5. Really, you don't.
The fact is that there's no fragility excuse anymore because the iPhone 5 is made of aluminum casted by Asgardian dwarf blacksmiths and put together with magicomicronometric precision by virgin she-dragons made of living gold.
It can't break, unless you shoot it with a silver bullet at the witching hour under a full moon."- sorry wrong thread. Wanted to post it in iPhone5 threadbenfal99

This is pretty funny:
chris baker @funkmastabaker
Leaving the apartment without a reliable map is the most excitement I've felt in years.

Google Earth is in the AppStore too... Works like a charm. All the data and info that Google Map have is there too. I just installed it.
You dont have directions... thats the downside.

If someone died because of this could they sue Apple?
- mantrakid0
I cant wait until im laying on my death bed, telling my great grand children what the world was upset about in late 2012. For fucks fucking sake.

I like it better. Looks simpler and also like the little shop and restaurants buttons. hate the 3D view anyways.
- clearThoughts0
they will iron out the issues.
- yupmonospaced
- But it will take some time. Especially if you live in a smaller market.ETM
- It simply should no have been release yet. It's half-baked and not supposed to be the 'Apple Experience'.ETM
- most apple stuff is half-baked at firstjaylarson

Of course they will. They now have millions of beta testers who paid for the chance.
