In case it has Slx-gears and upwards, hopefully with shifters too. 29" wheels... air-pressure fork and hydraulic brakes. I'd hit that for £600 :)

I've gotten used to having two bikes. One for work-out and back-forth to the office, another when going out later for drinks etc. Even though locked to pipes I've lost 3 bikes in the evening... just get a crappy one for that.

this would be for going to and from work but also taking to the woods and slight off road, nothing major. i wouldn't ever take a bike out for evening meets! there are vagabonds and tea-leafs everywhere!

Right, same as me then... I'd get it in 29" wheels though. Apparently the new thing, runs faster and better in the terrain once you get some speed.

I got this one quite recently...

    http://www3.bike-discount.de/bilder/xxl/56455/ltd-cc-black-anodized.jpg

It's a great bike, very quick, nice and light with good components. I've been using it to ride to work and back mostly - done about 250 miles on it so far.

    Got it from here...

because i'll be using it in the woods and off road too... there are some good trails around that'll be getting a ride on... hardtail more than full susp.

is there any bike out there with just a couple gears? I dont understand they all stick to the 21 speeds bike... we're only using like 2 or 4 of them... I would like a bike with only 3 to 6 speeds. Suggestions?

    • you can convert a 10 to a 5 speed easily, just remove the front derailleur/ chain ring.kingsteven1/3

Road bike with chunky tires (cyclocross bike or just plain road geometry) or hybrid bike. Buying a mountain bike for commuting might not be the best choice.

I am just like you, I havent been on a bike for a few years, then bought a cheap one for $50 off of craigslist. It got me hooked again. Now I want to get a proper bike.

Im just super worried it will get stolen if I get a new one.

if it gets stolen then claim on the home insurance! mine will be kept int the spare room in the house and locked up at work. there are always wankers out looking to rob bikes though, i was speaking to someone earlier in the week and he said he'd robbed a bike when he was younger, sold it for 400 quid but to be then told it was worth 2k as it was an orange...i kept quiet what i was wanting after that
