what's your opinion on putting studio/personal signatures on clients work?
sneaking in advertising seems a bit cheeky...
a friend of mine just upset a large client - but he considers it 'industry norm'

Nope, not at all.
Mark of a small creator.
- But then, I don't sign cheques either. That's just the way I roll.detritus

^ yep.
when you see that stuff on big names, it screams small creator.

Ask before signing. If the client thinks it's an important addition that could add value, then go for it. If the client would rather you not, they're the one who commissioned the work and you don't piss off your Medicis.

If I do work for a studio or what not where I am a small piece in their puzzle, i only put that I worked for the studio, nothing more. There are more things I was wholly responsible that I can display for myself than some small aspect of their project.

in the beginning - i would but a "website by..." in the footer of a site, but don't even do that any more. being paid by a client and then using their space as a platform just seems snarkey.

If you show them visuals with your credit in the design and the client doesn't refuse to have it there then leave it in.
You'd be surprised at the amount of referrer work you actually get especially when you do a work for a market leader - you may find lots of other companies within the same industry knocking at your door to do something just as great for them.

It's not the norm surely....and it's a bit tacky
you better always check with the client....don't sneak it on there AFTER they have signed off or it's underhanded.

I think clients should charge design companies for putting their weblink and company name at the foot of their homepage.
That having said, photographers have been getting away with it for years.

Full credits sequence in the form of a flash intro on every website

Im with BJ on this one, if they pay me, I feel its "snarkey" to slap my logo or info on their site. i use a rightclick show site credit thing on flash sites and even WP sites now, more subtle/more classy I think
I used to do this http://www.horiryutattoo.com/ (bottom right corner thing) but havent done that in at least 8 years.
- wow, doesn't even open in a new window. ;)albums
- is that shiz broken? i havent touched it in ages hahamoldero
- < ah i see, yeah you dont want 2 flash sites open at once, shit will slow your shit down then both sites look like ass, know what i mean ;)moldero

depends if it's any good. If it isn't, just put someone else's name on it.
