Wait, nothing in the rant on that website actually says that they employ child labour, just that they haven't "publicly addressed" it. Until they can prove that Urban Outfitters knowingly use suppliers who use forced child labour and ignore it, then this elicits a giant *yawn* from me. Lack of public acknowledgement /= guilty.

Just more "KONY 2012" bullshit trying to turn us into liberal communists!

Guess what, it's not just UO who use child labour, it's basically every competitive clothing company in the world from LULU Lemon to Tommy Hilfiger. Unless you grow the cotton, how do you really know who picked it? And if you had to pay an Ammerrican to pick it, your t-shirt would cost $400.

dbloc,
Define "sucks." Do you mean you wouldn't by any of the stuff they sell, or, you just wouldn't buy it in their store? There are plenty of brands there sold in a variety of stores, and styles that are not as trendy as some of the stuff they sell. All the Navajo print stuff that's been in there for more than a year is disgusting, but they consistently have some wardrobe staples I have no problem buying there (Alternative Earth t-shirts, Levis, Vans shoes, Hawkings McGill oxford shirts, stuff like that), none of which scream "hipster" or "trend-whore."

here's a thought, don't give them $ instead. i think that'll speak louder than any petition. now where do i get myself a $400 t-shirt?

I think it sucks too, dbloc. The collection is so trendy, and tries SO hard at being original, that if you buy something there you're just being unoriginal. That cool shirt you have isn't as cool when everyone else has it, and the same goes for the "hand made" rug/scarf/pillow cover or interesting book adorning their shelves. It's like the IKEA/Gap of alternative hipster, and therefore, it sucks by default.

Urban Outfitters stocks clothing by a number of different brands. Is their in-house brand, BDG, the company that uses child labor in their clothing, or one of the brands that UO carries? Or is it simply the fact that UO hasn't come out against child labor that's the issue here? A bit confusing.

I would never shop there regardless of what shit they committed.

mono and dbloc,
I agree, there is some trendy stuff there that's really gross. But I wouldn't discount the store entirely because of that. Season in and season out there are a number of things they sell that are not trendy. Do you guys not wear jeans? They have completely un-trendy jeans there constantly. There's plenty of stuff there that is the perfect uniform for college-aged hipster tools, but there are plenty of un-trendy staples there too.
Not trying to force you guys to even step foot in one... just want to make the point that it's not all trendy graphic tees and tight cutoff shorts.

Unfortunately Urban Outfitters does copy and xerox concepts from young up and comers. Happened to my friends sock company. Everything was going fine, they approached him with a deal which was a complete low ball offer, he would have lost money. After he refused they just re-created his work and put it on the shelves. He couldn't afford a lawyer.
