Naples Italy Suggestions? 2222 Responses

Anyone here been to Naples recently or ever? We are planning our vacation to Naples and the Amalfi Coast in a few months and then we are headed to Paris. We're getting married in Italy as well!
Any suggestions for stuff to do in Naples? Our first time to Italy and pretty excited about it. Heard Naples can be a bit sketchy in some spots but I think we can handle that.

We were there in the fall of 2010 and it is a wonderfully gritty city.
- Espresso at Cafe Mexico
- Explore the Spanish Quarter
- Eat tons of street food
- Pizza at Da MichelleIn Positano Ristorante Bruno is very nice. In Sorrento try La Lanturna Due for dinner and Il David Gelateria for dessert.

Run away as far as possible.
We drove past there on our way to the coast from the Airport... nearly crashed several times.
Sicily is beautiful, but Palermo is one hell of a mess!

We have to stay in Naples to take care of wedding documents. We're getting into Naples on a Sunday, then heading to Ravello on a Wednesday. Just the two of us, no family members, nothing. We've been together over 9 years and engaged over 3 1/2 years. We wanted to get married in Italy originally when we got engaged, but having family along is too complicated and costly. We're going to have a nice reception/party back in Chicago a couple months later.
Really looking forward to food in Italy and pizza in Naples. There's a No Reservations episode about Naples but it's not been on Netflix streaming.

Amalfi coast is stunning!
Capri is well worth a visit. Millionaires island!
The blue grotto (i think its called) is worth a boat trip.I remember going there back when I was about 16 with my family on a boat trip round to the grotto and seeing the local millionaire's kids out on their "little" yachts full of mates and hot italian ladies diving in the water and enjoying the sunshine and thinking to myself .... bastards!!!!
I'm off to Italy in June for my little bro's wedding in Lucca.
REALLY looking forward to it.

At the hotel we're staying at in Ravello after our wedding, they have a free boat to take up up and down the coast. Should be awesome. Hotel is pricey as holy hell so we're only staying there one night.
I've never gone on vacation for two weeks before, should be interesting. Kind of frustrating that we have to pack wedding clothes - and her a wedding dress - for something that we'll use only one day out of those two weeks.
Getting to Naples is kind of a pain too. Chicago > Boston > Dublin > Naples on 3 planes, 15 hours total travel. At least Paris > Chicago at the end is easy to do.
Originally we had planned to go to Rome and also take the train from Rome to Paris, but someone we're working with talked us out of it.
We went to Paris together three months after we started dating, back in Feb. 2003, so we're kind of excited to get back there and also it not be winter. I wish we had planned things a few weeks later to see part of the Tour de France.

Also, did any of you have trouble in Italy being unable to speak Italian? I've heard it's not that bad and English is somewhat well spoken.
Fortunately, I still speak a decent amount of basic French. Need to do a crash course before we go to fresh up with it, but otherwise pretty good at the basics.

Make yourself a present and get at least one night at http://www.mamashelter.com/en/ while in Paris—great even if you happen to be allergic to Philippe Starck...

1.Take a boat to Capri.
2. In between Praiano and Amalifi their is a small pizza shop on top of a convenience store. The pizza here is INSANE!! and your also sitting on a 1000ft cliff.
http://maps.google.ca/?ll=40.625…3. Go up to Ravelo it's up in the mountains above Amalfi. Short bus ride.
4. See PompeiiIn NAPLES what's out for Gypsies and pickpockets.

they removed the sign but there's a beach down here that's kick ass. You can see it when you zoom out of street view. Chair rentals are cheap great view of Positano all day without the business and tourist. The food here is also out of this world! but that's the case everywhere in Italy.
