So I had 2 short term contracts come in last week from different agencies, seeing as there short term I work on a first come first served bases. So I agree on the first contract that get's to me, and agree to start on Monday, this then get's pushed back to Wensday, and today I find that the contract has fallen through, I have now lost almost £2k in revenue, and lost the other contract.
I just do not understand how these agencies can contact you to say the work is there with a start date, for them to then get back to you and say that there still negotiating on price and there has been a problem. I'm just a littel bit pissed off right now.

There is always a million reasons why things can fall through. I'd say 75% of our projects don't start when they are promised to start, take longer, etc. Too many variables.
My advice: never turn work down. Find someone else and send it to them, if you have to.

Ha typical,...i've turned down work after being booked at agencies here in NYC only to have it fall through and i end up with neither. Agencies are not your friends, use them like they use you.

As everyone has stated, agencies can show work and take it away on a whim. There will always be a designer ready to make themselves available when the work comes around (whenever that happens). So its no sweat to the agency. It sucks, but thats how she rolls.

end of february i finished my one year contract, and the boss said he like my work and offered me a full-time job. in the process, i turned down an offer from a different company.
early this month, the boss said that no new project have come in since start of the year and the ones that have either have been cancelled or postponed. he bluntly said he couldn't afford to keep me.
need to start going through my contact list again.

Death to all agencies. May one day their business model be obsolete.

pillhead. take a day.
...you know. go to the gym and beat up a punching bag, take a yoga class, run fast 6x's around the block, scream on some remote hill where no one will hear you, have some ROOT with ginger...
hit the restart button tomorrow or Thursday.
you'll have something better come up. maybe it just "wasn't meant to be" sorry for the clique but it's true. could be you dodged a bullet.i'm sure you've taken something away too.
