I saw the second installment, Catching Fire, last night. It's a definite improvement on the first film, a little more faithful to the book and with slightly better drama.

the beginning of hunger games made me turn it off, I should add it to the worst movies thread

I think they do that shaky camera thing so as to have, yet not show violence, in order to get a PG-13 rating. We all have a thirst for watchig violence you know ... Thought the aesthetic worked in some parts, liked the hat-tip to Logan's Run.

I thought it was a bit shit and like others say a Battle Royale rip off :(

Overrated shit. Watchable though.

Read the book quick before seeing the film. The film failed to capture the true desperation, hardship, suffering, hunger and struggle in the Games themselves. For example, in the book, Katniss nearly dies of thirst and dehydration before finding water while in the film it shows her dashing into the woods, filling her canteen and roasting squirrels right away. These types of liberties with the depiction totally alters the feeling of the Games from what they are in the book. For this reason I feel the film didn't do the book justice.
- I agree, the biggest danger was that douche with macheteBeeswax
- In the book half the battle was with the insane environment. Nearly freezing, festering wounds, etc.monospaced

I just watched The Gray and I can easily say that Hunger Games was a more entertaining survival movie.

I thought it was good, 9 out of 10. I'll likely watch the other ones when they come out too. I like action flix and thought this was entertaining and good enough that my wife would watch it too (which is extremely rare).
I hear a lot of folks compare it to Battle Royale. Personally, I thought Battle Royale was a great idea but really poor execution of a movie, way over-rated.

let me guess...
It's about a dystopian future where the youth turn out to be the only hope for change. It's a movie that serves as a warning of our current society conditions and where we may head if don't make changes soon.
Teens will eat this shit up since it's all about them and how they are good and know "right" and the adults are corrupt and are "wrong".
Haven't read a single thing about Hunger Games, but am I close?

I never read the book, nor was I interested in doing so.
I haven't seen the japanese version yet, and I only watched Hunger Games because it was free.I thought it was going to be kids fighting on a jungle because they were starving and they needed to each each other, it turned out to be some sort of 'new school' version of Running Man.
I liked it overall, I now want to see the japanese version which I'm told is a bit more dark.
If you don't put this movie on a pedestal (it was never meant to be on one) and you watch it, you will have a good time, if you start thinking that is some sort of cinematic classic deserving the prestige that some of the ones included on the Criterion Collection, then of course you will hate it, but my question to you is, why did you ever thought it belonged there?
Put it on the category of 'cool movies to watch on dvd' and you won't be disappointed.
Also, there are no vampires in it.
