I dunno about this. Steve Jobs had never sought to reintroduce nostalgia, and that's sort of what I get when I look at it. I can't help but see it as trying to be an updated version of their first logo. He always would look forwards, not backwards.
It's my first sense of knowing that Apple could be a different company in the years to come.
