Does anyone want to share their well-written disclaimer regarding rush jobs?
The client has just come up with an unexpected and unrealistic deadline... although it's three weeks out, they'll wait until the last minute to handover deliverables.

150% of standard hourly rate. In extreme cases, 200%.

Damn, I actually was hoping this would be about visiting a client again and and again finding that their shitters were all caked with poo goo, boogers on the walls and the early makings of a glory hole carved with the end of an ice pick.

"designer is not responsible for missed timelines or milestone deliveries caused by the delay of original content delivery and /or delay in direction or approval of stages and milestones."
state the expected content delivery dates clearly, and explain to them that if you don't get the content by X date, the deliverable date will be pushed back by X number of days.
protect yourself with email tracks and copy everyone involved in the project. Don't be afraid to push back on them.

I always base deadlines on having everything i need to get started. Basically - hand over the info, i can have it to you in 2 weeks. If you dont hand the info over for 3 weeks, you dont see it for 5.
If its a rush / last minute / unexpected job then they *know* they are putting you out, and a simple 'my production schedule is already full. I can fit in your work, but it means I have to push someone else so I have a rush rate of $X to account for the shuffling of business, customer service, etc it causes me." If youre good they pay you and usually happily. If not they'll find someone else.
- But a stall - ie a known deadline on both parties that is weeks away. if they delay, they have to know that it delays u.mantrakid
