dam i had to dust this thread off? anyone doing homebrews or anything practical that you are willing to share?
I am trying to make a small photo booth , I have seen a few variations out of the PI.
I have a PI 3 , it was about $40 with shipping to TEXAS (yes we are big) . Comes with a micro usb ac adapter for power and that is all .
it has 4 usb ports and 1 hdmi , so off the bat i plug into any monitor and use any standard usb key board and mouse
what does it boot? NOTHING , you have to download an OS into a MICRO SD card . Once you pop that sucker into the PI and plug in power it BOOTS UP
I love this thing
- ok Im high , i thought last note was 4 years agoBattleAxe

- I am running PYTHON programs to access the CAM PI module, so far seen Tkinter to build a GUI but seems dated, any other GUI SDKs?BattleAxe
- Pretty cool, what's it like to develop on?mugwart
- Are they Lego nipples?detritus
- can you link? I've had a pi in my desk for over a year this might just be what I need to get a project moving!digitdaily
- I wish I knew how to do shit like this. Looks fun as hell ToTsarahfailin

for those curious to dive into it, that is my advice just dive into it , the tutorials and documentation is great to be up in less than 10 mins
you can even buy a pre-loaded SD card so you dont have to download anything . People have been booting various types of OS but Raspian (linux) seems to be the most friendly. It is a nice full windows OS with a browser and even office type apps ,
the fun part is making it do something for you beyond a normal computer , most common things
-media center (plug in a USB HD and let it manage your videos a la windows media center ) this is built in so no programming needed to set this up
- web server , I installed a LAMP stack and can host a site on it
- popular one is make an arcade cabinet and run ROMs on it
- there is a Camera module so you can do a low cost security system
- with Twitter API , Python and Twython you can build a twitter bot follow mine here ->
all kinds of things you can think of , the graphics card is comparable to a PS2 so you can build your own Arcade out of it if you wanted with a UNITY 3D build

- Remember when the sale of PS2s to Iran etc was embargoed because they were worried they'd be used for missile guidance? Tech's matured 15 years since..detritus
- ..er.. 16/17 years since :)detritus
- Cool, can you play Super Mario World on it?face_melter
- Yeah, just don't lose.detritus

I'm gonna get one of these and a BeagleBone Black.
I've got a few ideas for the BeagleBone: eurorack sequencer (did an arduino one, have bigger ideas for this), synthesizer, or a granular sampler / looper / thingy. JUCE C++ audio framework compiles on these, and it has a nice I2C DAC shield.
Gonna make a touch screen tasklist thing for my girlfriend. Kinda want to integrate a music player and bluetooth speakers as well.
Really wanna get more into the IOT realm. Just need to narrow down the projects.

I'd like to buy a Pi for my nephew for his birthday - any good kits that I should buy?
- detritus0
They've literally just announced a new one, adding wireless connectivity to the cheaper Pi Zero, so now's a good time - you can get him two! :) https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog…
Where you at, Gordy - UK? If so:

I've done so many RPI projects last year
• media center
• smart mirror
• NAS
• home automation
• dragon dildo
• cloud server
• mqtt serverlatest projects:
• blynk personal serveryet, I don't think we've even reached what could be done with these little beast,
for those interrested in getting one, just get the model 3, the speed from Model 2 is good but once you go 3 you never go back

Processing + raspberry pi + 4k monitors = awesomeness,
Still need to design the framing and redo the cabling but for now it's running :)- a raspberry pi can output 8192 × 2160 pixels. impressive.uan
- nah, it can't actually, but it can do 4k as long as it's not HD video, I'm using two raspberries in parallel ;)GeorgesII
- love to know how you did this. Its very impressivemugwart
- sweetDillinger
- yeah we use pi's for video wall installs - we've done a x16 screen wall with a pi per wallvivid
- only 1920x1080 per screen thoughvivid

New Raspberry Pi

- pretty much same spec save for 15% faster processor?prophetone
- ^^ upgraded network connections (wired and wifi) too. Wish the ram would have got a boost though. Especially for video buffering.section_014
