what is "techno" these days?
it used to be just about any electronic music back when we were primitive folk in the 90s who only really made one thing. is it like... house or something now?

- People use it as a general term but it's also a specific genre that developed in Detroit in the late 80s and then spread to Europe.yuekit
- In terms of the sound, 4/4 beat similar to house but with harder more experimental sounds, futuristic themesyuekit
- Pretty much what it says here

It's hard to tell because it's so diverse nowadays. Only constant seems to be a TR-909 beat (or 909 imitations)

Techno, for me, begins and ends with UR/Jeff Mills - Derrick May fits in there somewhere along with Joey Beltram, Kraftwerk, and New Order, but nothing has a patch on Mills, to be honest.
Like, UR are genuinely fucking amazing - taking sounds and bending them all to fuck.
But techno is harder, more mechanical and precise, cleaner and indestructible. The sound of science - if the LHC became sentient it would make Energy Flash.

I came across this in an honorable mention list for 2015, it is so deep and dark, I'm instantly a fan.
