The main pitfall is once you get used to AE you realise how fucking terrible Flash has been all these years and going back to Flash is utter hell

two totally different programs. One if for web, the other is for broadcast media.dbloc2/5
Of course you can do much more when the output is video.dbloc3/5
      yes wtfjadrian_uk4/5
dbloc: You can compare them in animating objects and parenting. Flash is broken in these regardsanimatedgif5/5

I think Bradley Grosh had an article on this (GMunk). Try searching Google for that story, was pretty good if I remember correctly

Yep. I think ill be concentrating more on AE. I used to be a code monkey, but lately been having a passion to see things move. It just feels nice at the end of day to think about what else I can add to a motion design piece, than why won't that for loop work with its 3 dimensional array.

I was doing animations in flash and it was awesome while it lasted, this was back in version 3 or 4, when people would pay me money for an obnoxious animation that said something like "welcome to my site".

Flash began to become more popular and complex, featuring dynamic content and stuff like that, there was no reason to use flash for the animation side alone, you needed to know code and make it usable or it was lame.

So I started doing motion on after effects for infomercials in the motocross industry. REALLY LAME stuff, but because I came from print, my use of typography made it look competitive enough. I started liking after effects more and more, and soon I was no longer needed.

Then I started learning camera layer... GOOD BYE FLASH. SEE YOU NEVER.

    hahaha

But now, I do very little stuff for tv, most of the animations I do, end up in websites, just like i did when I first started, so the industry changed a bit, but then it came back to the same thing.

Do it. You'll get good money for it, and no code needed (you could do scripts in After Effects, but If I have to look at code to make something move, then it's no longer fun, I like the visual aspect of placing everything on a scene and move it around manually)

    :)

@Miguex - Yes indeed and thanks for the reply, I've heard alot of AE guys coming from Flash saying "Join the Dark Side" you'll love it. Which is kind of how I got into Flash on the first place, when back in the day, when i was tryng to make animations happen on the web through HTML & DHTML. Now it seems that there's another layer of code and everything is going backwards. I used to use tween engines for flash but felt like it was clunky and no flow to it, I also didn't understand why guys who call themselves animators don't have a wacom and pen. Maybe I'm just picky, but I like to get into my projects just as how a fat boy loves to eat cake. Well you get the idea... You've got some work I can check out? Or anyone for that matter. I'll show you mine if you show me yours. He he!!!

    • i hated getting handed source files with those tween extensions for something as simple as a bannermoldero

cool, you might find the ae timeline easier than flash's timeline, depends on how used to flash's timeline you are

    @mrock:

    I don't have a wacom pen, I do everything with a mouse,
even custom typography stuff like this:

I'm left handed for writing, and right handed for using the mouse, so to me the wacom always felt un natural for some reason. But then I don't call my self an animator either, I like "designer" :)

    I have some work here:

Boom! Nice work Miguex. i knew i was get something out of that comment. Sorry didn't mean to throw non-wacom tablet users under the train. I subscribed to your work on vimeo and will watch more on my downtime. As for me, here is my latest stuff, it's all banner work with some AE.
