lvl.. 13
spoke to my friend.. he said you most likely will not find a better deal than what you have at Ace hotel for that price as during that time, it is the opening of the season and more and more tourists enter palm springs and hotel rates go up..
have you check out Tablet Hotels website?
http://www.tablethotels.com/Palm…i linked it directed at palm springs. he said if you are with car, at any hotel there is those brochures for points of interest..
you should go to every hotel bar.. eat at their bars/ restaurants..
visit bob hope's house.. and visit bat country.

you might get bored in joshua tree.. it is a really vast open area.. also nothing is there.
i used to have a summer house in palm springs.. we lived at one of the many many golf courses estates.. this was in the 80s-90s.. i know much has changed and all the old spots are now gay joints..
i have a friend who lives there now.. ill ask him tonight about exact spots for you to check out.
near the "pee wee herman" dinosaur statues there is a really fun spot to rent QUADS and go off roading in the dunes in the desert.
also there is a mini market called Hadleys.. in the middle of nowhere right over there.. get some red liquorice there, they have a special one that you cant get any where else.
in palm springs there is a water park, they have a lazy river/ tube circle that wraps the entire park, 2 giant vertical drop slides and a bunch of tube and air tube rides to enjoy on a very hot day..
ill post back here later tonight after i get specifics of the area, as my friend has been living there the last 15 years..
i bought my first Shark watch at the local "surf" shop there back in 1981.. is still have it. there was a spot called Double Rainbow, an ices/ icecream spot 2 blocks off the main strip.. ill ask if that is still there as they were really tasty!!
have fun!!

I've been curious about going to Palm Springs for a few years now. This vacation rental house is way out of your budget (and mine) but it looks kick ass and if for sale now...

I was just at the Ace Hotel in november, its pretty much the only place with people in their late 20s early 30s in PS.
Nightlife seems to be dead, so rent a bike grab a camera and start snapping photos of the amazing architecture there.
There's the hotel california (not sure if its related to the song) across from ace hotel, might be cheaper but probably no people.
You can always go to the bar at ace at night and sneak to the pool during weekdays when there's no security.
I've stayed at the movie colony too, its very nice, less crowded than ace, go there if you are going w your lady, more private only like 6 rooms or so.
I took this photo there:
Legend says that Jim Morrison jumped from the roof of that hotel to the pool..
- thanks for the info. yeah, def. going to be a photo weekend. i've only been once on the way back from salton sea.lvl_13

Joshua Tree is definitely worth a visit, as well as dinner at Pappy & Harriot's (great roadhouse w/live music) in Pioneertown :http://www.pappyandharriets.com...
I last stayed at this house in the area. Absolutely amazing, peaceful, expensive. Would do it again in a heartbeat. http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1960…http://www.dwell.com/articles/it…

oh damn, arthur. it's funny you mention the off the grid house. a few friends and I were talking about renting that place sometime in the near future (seems to rent out rather quickly if you aren't looking months in advance. split between 2 couples the price isn't bad at all.
the place looks amazing.

@lvl_13 yes, it's amazing. In the middle of nowhere and it feels like it. It's got 2 bedrooms, but one clearly has the better view, so you may need to fight for it. Tiny but beautiful kitchen with mini fridge. Cool tub with windows around if you're not shy. Wolves and snakes abound, so you have to bring a snake bite kit when you go out. Passive heating and cooling, totally off grid. I've got tons of pics if you want to see anything.

haven't been in 2-3 years, but the last time i went we stayed at the viceroy. i don't recall how much it was, but i remember it being a cool spot within walking distance to strip which has a few bars / restaurants / etc.

Groupon has a good deal for the Riviera. I heard it's great. I may head out there this weekend.
