From Brand New:
I received the following statement from an HP spokesperson in regards to the potential new logo we covered on Wednesday:
"In 2008, HP asked marketing agency Moving Brands to propose new ideas for various elements of HP’s brand identity, including fonts, graphics, and logos.
HP is one of the world’s most valuable brands and has no plans to adopt the new logo proposed by Moving Brands. HP did implement some of the other design elements shown in the case study."
So there you have it folks: no new HP logo.

We have removed the HP case study per the request of HP, in order to clarify the distinction between the aspects of the work that were setting a creative vision for the brand but were not implemented in the market, and the aspects which reflect the actual in-market applications of the Identity and Design System. The ‘Progress mark’ logo is not the go-forward direction for HP.
Please bare with us whilst we update the case study and thank you for your support.

oooops looks like everyone took this a lot more seriously than it was actually intended to be.
I like the new mark but it seems to be going in the opposite direction of the actual company which isn't leaning forward at all but instead is curling up in a fetal position around a printer in a pool of toner.

i like it alot, but HP's product line is not cool enough to pull this off.

I liked the Human Progress concept, quite clever.
However the hp mark doesn't quite work, the rounded edges keep leading me to read it as 'bp'...something not quite right.

Far from liking the proposed logo, it's the written rationale that's even worse:
'The defining signature of the system is the 13° angle. 13° represents HP’s spirit as a company, driven forward by ingenuity and optimism about the future and a belief in human progress. It also refers to the world of computing by recalling the forward slash used in programming.'
This is the most staggeringly trite marketing arse gravy I've ever read.
'13° represents HP’s spirit as a company'
Is this a fucking joke? A brand proposition defined by a line angle?
'It also refers to the world of computing by recalling the forward slash used in programming.'
Yeah, that's REALLY going to connect on an emotional level with your average Best Buy shopper who hasn't got the lightest clue how to use a computer, and is resorting to getting a piece of HP crap to get on the intertubes and surf some email with their shiny new AOL account.
Christ.
- love me some gravyprophetone
- in the world of programming, originally, it was a backslash not a forward slash C:\BaskerviIle
- sounds like the red bull branding bullcrap.zarkonite

well, i've been doing stuff for HP, not that I love the old blue sphere logo, and like inteliboy said this is forgettable, but i think is easier to work and to animate :D the old logo you'd be locked with that spherical stuff and the font inside.
