you've probably already considered this, but you could take a $3 ikea frame and fill/coat it with resin from home depot (it comes in jugs, people use it for repairing boats, etc)

cool idea.
I'd be interested in trying it at poster size.
But I imagine preventing air bubbles is the most difficult thing to do.

Looks like a spray type/misting solution to me... brushing it on would be a horrible process. Anyone doing this commercially would have the necessary experience and charges/fees to match... DIY? Best of luck!

Say, anyone know if epoxy resin would bind to steel? I have a couple of 1970's Weller steel wheels to put on the rear axle of my van, but the tyre bead seats are a little eaten down by corrosion in a couple of patches, and I'm trying to figure out a way of building the rim back up so there is no danger of air leaks.

fuckit, tryit.
Both the OP and Horpington.
Resin casting is something I've had on my to-do list for a while now, and I've seen friends work with it and, given a shot or two, seems like something fairly 'easy' to do. Search Youtube for how-tos.
Horpington — just do it. Try on a spare rod of steel. Have you considered adding in some kind of poly weave material, or fibreglass?

why would you want an epoxy resin over steel? use por15, a urethane clear or even acrylic. if you're putting epoxy on your wheels, i'm wondering if you painted the van with spray paint

if the steel is missing so much the bead is in danger, you put other drivers at risk deciding to use them, to repair them properly, have them welded to build the material back up
