what do you think of them?

I ask because there's a .com I really wanted and of course it's gone. The .net is available but to me, it seems so 1995...

What's the status of the .com—is it used or parked?

Nothing wrong with .co and it's easier to type.

    .co?

Some people say attaching your business to a domain that stays vulnerable to caprices of Colombian government is crazy.

On the other hand, it's the US government that has a recent history of seizing domains, so there.

At the same time, I only heard of one .ly seized by Libyan government, for hosting porn links (against clear registry rules).

depends who has the .com. if a competitor than pick something else but otherwise, .net is fine. Just keep in mind 20-30% of people typing your domain will type .com by mistake.

I never understood why everyone ignores them. it makes more sense than .com for a lot of web based companies and individuals. .com is over saturated and the only way to get people to get their heads out of it is to start pushing .net more. I think in 5 years .net will be the new standard.

    whatever...

I once worked for an agency whose domain was ___.net, and the same ___.com was completely different, we often had confused clients, and since clients thought we were supposded to be "the internet wizards" .... this situation made us look rather stupid...

    • so then you should educate them. you are interNET wizards.eieio1/2
I told them on the first day.. they said they couldn't reprint business cards... I left fairly soon... they went broke later....vaxorcist2/2

I think it depends on what the name itself is. If its really good and unique (like a one word URL) then .net might be worth using.

If it is not that unique or a few words, then I would try to find a variation on it and get the .com for that.

.co seemed like it might have potential when they were launching it but I have not seen a single site use it since.
