I was surprised to find I quite enjoyed Bright — we put it on for some mindless viewing the other night and I groaned aloud when I realised it was Orcs and Elves and fantasy stuff, not aliens as I'd simply assumed... but it worked. It was a stupid pointless movie, but I got right into it.

Stand-Up wise, Neal Brennan's '3 mics' was mostly enjoyable.. he's obviously a talented writer.
However, there's a distinct strand within American stand-up that seems to rely on overt personal exhibition, which this guy builds right into the routine with a full third of it ('one of the mics') dedicated to 'emotional' performance. It's, for the most part, not at all funny.
I sort of get it, and I sort of found it interesting — but it was too much. Way too much.
I'm not sure why hundreds of people would go to listen to someone pour out a load of personal shit without much expectation of a laugh or three from it.
Odd. Worth a watch though — I'd just be prepared to either skip some of it or sit back and wonder at it all.

I'm about 3 episodes into Altered Carbon. As a sci-fi fan, I am biased toward things like this, so I of course want to enjoy it and am willing to give it some slack.
But damn. It's fun, but not great. The very moment(s) it starts to feel deep and meaningful, some stupid ass one-liner or absolute cliche moment cheese steps in and ruins the immersion.
Now that I know there's a past relationship between his sleeve and a living character though, I have some hope.
- Cool world, boring characters.DRIFTMONKEY
- stiff actors, bad writing, cool concept.ArmandoEstrada
- agreed with all statements. i'm about 7 eps in. nice for something mindlessjaylarson
- there are some fucking really, really cool concepts! but they are trying to cram too much into each episode, so it's dilutedmonospaced
- It isn't great, just good enough.Maaku
- completely agree... and not to spoil it but there isn't much of a payoff (meaning it really doesn't get much better and the ending is... meh)PonyBoy
- it's like the new cloverfield, a good sci-fi but nothing groundbreakingsted
- I enjoyed iternexbcn
- I cannot get into Altered Carbon. I got 2.5 episodes in, and that's all I could take. It's lacking something.section_014
- it's the last .5 of episode 3 that kept me in, otherwise I would have given up at 2.5 alsomonospaced
- couldn't get past the first 30 mins, was pure shitfyoucher1
- Geez tough crowd. Review everywhere has been good.pango
- better than cloverfield. lots of cool concepts. Like different black mirror prophecies in one show.Beeswax
- Was meh. I thought the styling was a bit off, should of been grittier looking. Enjoyed it more when he was in his original sleevethumb_screws

- let's be honest, it's b-grade and oddball as fuck. the acting is all utterly bizarre. the music bland. the story weak. But I still dig it for some reason.inteliboy

- it's really good, though garlands direction is a little film-student sometimes on this one. Not sure why - maybe not enough shoot time / budget.inteliboy
- but the last 15 minutes is so fkn amazing - I watched it 3 or 4 times.inteliboy
- yep excellent film but agree inteliboy, some let down moments that looked budget related, some creature CGI piss poor.fadein11

Been watching Colony on Netflix lately. It's entertaining enough, but I can't help but think when I watch it that I'm actually watching a live-action re-boot of Half-Life 2.
Also, Josh Holloway can't act convincingly.
- There've been been a couple of deaths by crowbar.Continuity
- Lol it will turn into such shit. Second season is impossible to watch. go for Incorporatedsted
- I'm in the second season, they just left City 17--err, LA.Continuity
