I've been tasked with updating (more like creating) the studio's production guidelines – stuff like file naming practices, docket folder structure, final file prep, etc.
I know how we do things, but I'm wondering if there are any examples I could take a look at for presenting the info, or maybe even adopt ideas from.
It's pretty straight forward, but it's Friday, I'm bored, and willing to be surprised.

Never write "FINAL" in the file name

piece of advise: people is stupid, so keep it simple.
(nobody will follow it anyway).

Glad you asked. File names that have some consistent basis in reality. Other people not intimate with the project may find it easier to understand (like your printer). If it's a cover include the word cover in amongst date, docket, revisions, etc. Call it a cover when discussing and requesting quotes not magenta bob. And if the file is 11" x 17" + bleed make an 11" x 17" document with bleed not an 8" x 10" artboard with drawn crops! Include words like final, to print or low res proof. Of course dates, revisions and dockets are also essential.
- File names have become a problem, but the rest of this is basic.i_monk

Some clients or vendors require their own weird filename conventions to be at the front of the filename, this can be strange alpha-numeric like: 2011_TFE_55331_ as in :
2011_TFE_55331_whatever_you_want...
this can suck in some people's systems, where their list of files only shows the first 10 characters or so, they think all the files are the same, so we end up having to phone-coach people how to widen their window tabs,etc.... so try not to do this unless you really have to.

i've been doing dated folders and going easy on the names like this:
labels.ai
cover.ai
packaging.ai
ribbons.aiand so on
