compared to public transport, vice versa, etc.
in my city, and in particular where i live in comparison to the cbd, the difference between driving to work and public transport is 30 minutes drive and 1 hour 30 minutes by public transport each way.
so thats 2 hours a day extra. and its actually cheaper for me to drive too. of course theres the whole environment thing too. but when i look at cities like hong kong, they have extensive public transport for much lower than private transport.
what do you do? how far is your commute?

because i live in la and there isn't another option?

I commute approx 1 hr each way (45 min on a good day) and spend about 2hrs in a car 5 days a week.
I can't use public transportation because the state I live in simply does not have viable public transportation (michigan).
The drive gets really old after a while and has really been starting to add up to a large financial commitment a month. I spend about 10-12 hrs of my week in a vehicle and have been doing about $70-80/week in gas, which adds up to about $300/mo.
Major suck.

I drive.
10 min drive vs 30-45 min bus+rail ride. Plus, I don't have to deal with the dregs of society. (I'm such an elitist)

no car, and really no need for one in san francisco. i usually either walk, or take the BART...depending on the type/time of day.
