hey guys, Have a client that wants to add a blog to their site but their hosting is through GoDaddy.
Now, I've done this before with BlueHost, MT, etc thanks to their install setup, but was wondering if you guys have any experience with Godaddy and if WP could be easily installed and how? Thanks!

Bluehost and MT have the nice one click installs, not sure about godaddy. Either way, WP's docs guides you through installs easily.

If you follow the wp 5 minute install guide, you cant really go wrong.
Only thing you really have to think about is creating the DB and then putting the DB info in the right place in your wp-config file

I love wordpress questions at qbn

should be automated once the files are uploaded. Godaddy might even have a 1-click install by now since WP is so widely used.

It's simple. First of all, GoDaddy, offers Wordpress hosting, so you just need to call them and tell them to install it for you if it's not already. If your new to this, which it sounds like you are, you need to affirm that the WP Framework is in place and then install a theme. That theme could be one of thousands, these days. Either use a standard FTP client or use their onsite FTP application to drag your theme into the theme folder.

To add a new Theme to your WordPress installation, follow these basic steps:Download the Theme archive and extract the files it contains. You may need to preserve the directory structure in the archive when extracting these files. Follow the guidelines provided by your Theme author.
Using an FTP client to access your host web server, create a directory to contain your Theme in the wp-content/themes directory provided by WordPress. For example, a Theme named Test should be in wp-content/themes/test. Your Theme may provide this directory as part of the archive.
Upload the Theme files to the new directory on your host server.
Follow the instructions below for selecting the new Theme.Or you can install it via your CMS Admin at http://whateverthefuck.com/wp-ad… after you login, under Themes. However, I have found that process to be a bit buggy and a pain in the ass.

^ a word of advice, you will not be able to see your WP installed site easily via GoDaddy. They are a decent hosting group, but you will not be able to see it with your yoursite at http://yoursite.godaddy.com. It will most certainly be at http://yoursite.com.previewdns.c…
Yes, that crazy and stupid preview URL. I think I just saved you a lot of time BTW.
All in all, there are plenty of decent full-fledged website themes that will streamline your blog for you. Sounds like you will be linking to it or using an iFrame. Ugly process.
- basically, they don't do subdomains at GoDaddy. Or I haven't seen itchilamont

Anyway there are craploads of great full fledged sites out there at the likes of http://themeforest.net/category/…, etc.

WP on godaddy can be a bit odd for things like .htaccess for SEO-compliant URLS
Some suggest the slightly more $$ account, not the "economy" account, but i usually try to avoid godaddy for wp as weird shit happened in my previous experience....

Another question. Let's say I am adding this blog to the site. Is there any way that I can bring in the same menu from the actual site and repeat it allowing me to go back to any other /About, /contact/, etc. page?

Hmm, I see, so my best bet is just to create a WP based site customizing themes. One thing I noticed tho is that if I install through Godaddy, it creates a new database but then it only lists it as domain.com/___.
Could I just have the WP set up as main page? like www.domain.com

one some webhosts you can point your domain to a directory like /root/mysite/www/blog
on others, you may have to download the entire /blog/ directory and sub-dirs, then re-upload them into the webroot directory
