Is it a good place? Would you (or do you) live there?
- LukeO0
I did, for 4 years. Now back in London.
I miss it a lot. It's like a super-chilled London, with all the local pockets all close enough together that you don't need buses/tubes.
Jobs wise - design jobs, it's fine. A good handful a good agencies big and small. A fair bit of mediocre - as you wold expect anywhere though. Some great rep agencies in Bath as well - that's a small drive/train ride away.
Spike Island is an amazing creative hub near the river it you'd want to set up yourself, or paintworks possibly.
Quality of life would be reason for going though. Compared to London it really gives you a lot more to be cheerful about.
- Thanks LukeO - that's the kind of thing I was wanting to hear. I think maybe it's time for a change :)********
- have a few weekends down there to get a feel for the place - any more questions - just ask!LukeO

Yeah..
I never realised why I'd never visited Bristol and always wanted to.. for years heard "oh, you'd love it mate"
so I popped there recently
stoke croft seems a nice area for arts and bars and there's plenty of bohemian feel around. One of the dirtiest kebab shops ever tho!

I was there five years ago and fell in love with the place. I would move there in a flash.

I've lived here for nearly three years now and love it. The art/design and music scenes are brilliant, it's not expensive to live and the city itself is small enough to get around by bike.
I live in Hotwells, pretty much as far west as you can go within the city and my girlfriend's folks live in Stapleton (North East) and it only takes 25 minutes to cycle.
Regrettably, I'm moving to London in three weeks as I've found no design jobs in Bristol during the last year. There are quite a few studios here but many are small so it's a case of getting in touch with the right place at the right time.
I plan to move back here and would recommend it to anyone. Plenty to do, a nice place to be, easy to get around with a variety of different scenes/areas within close proximity and cheap to live.
Hope this helps and good luck.

certainly people i know from there seem to be too happy that it makes you wonder what meds they're on. probably nice once you're there but when they appear in london it grates somewhat.

It's a cool little city. Have friends there who love it. Clifton is a lovely area to live. Just don't pop around to your neighbors with pizza!

Police: Derision Over Flatulence Was Stabbing Motive
http://www.courant.com/community…
BRISTOL — — A 21-year-old city man charged with stabbing four people at a party Saturday night, killing one, told investigators he became enraged because people were criticizing him for passing gas, police said.
Marc Higgins, who was described by witnesses as being "very drunk," stormed out of the party, came back armed with three knives and started stabbing people indiscriminately, according to court documents released Monday.
Matthew Walton, 21, also of Bristol, died of stab wounds after the attack, police said. Two men and a woman also were stabbed, but all have been released from Bristol Hospital.
