the problem with satellite/sub combos is that there's usually a hole between low mids and the bass from the sub. the mid drivers are too small and the cabinet volume isn't large enough. i'm an audio snob though. what's your budget?

The ones you've posted get amazing reviews. I know 2 mates with them and they are immense. Go quite loud and sound great.

I had a few satellite systems but once I went with M-Audio AV40 there was no coming back. I know a few QBN'ers have them too.

Hey thanks for the recommendations .. got the AE Aego - they're very small / unassuming - but sound amazing.
Very happy.
- The bass is pretty huge / trebble is great - I can understand about mid-range being slightly absent, but I'm still noticing lots of new parts to old music.********

Is there any reason not to use studio monitors for general music listening? I would think having speakers that don't add any color would always be advantagious?
- monospaced0
@epigraph
There are reasons, and they have to do with the "sweet spot" where music has a clearly defined stage. Monitors are awesome—I have a pair both in my living room and at my computer—but they have a very, very narrow spot where the full frequency and balanced stage can be achieved. Home speakers on the other hand are designed to create a wider soundstage and a larger sweet spot. Unfortunately they also color the sound a little.- you're confused, color is what you see with your eyes, sound is what you hear with you ears.
Hope that helps! :DHombre_Lobo
