is there a technic that anybody knows of for testing legibility for a large scale garphic (ie a billboard) besides mocking it up in a photo.

View it full size on your screen, then step back 20 feet.

Not really a garphic technic, but here are some guidelines that might help: http://elliott-design.net/letter…

what i do is think about just how much of your field of vision the billboard's gonna take up while driving past it. you can measure it with your fingers/hands, right?
zoom out on your file til it's that size, maybe squint your eyes.
can you read it?
now imagine you're driving past it at 60mph

- This only works if, while doing it, you make 'vrrrrrmmmm' sounds.orrinward

we make a lot of billboards-
we tell people that 12" tall letters are the smallest for every 50' of viewing distance for stationary viewing- or 18" for mobile traffic.

where did you come up with those numbers?the ADA suggests (mind you it's more for signage) that for every 25 ft you need a 1" cap height.
