Are dildos made of oil?
- gramme0
Asked about concerns regarding oil leaks or pollution, Colclough said "there are reports the rig was not actively producing any product, so we don't know if there's any risk of pollution."
- Iggyboo0
No word yet on this one being an oil leaking explosion.. lets just hope it was pressure related. And I guess a more scary situation lets just hope it is not natural gas or something else they weren't supposed to hit. At least the drillers are safe.

If its not active, why did it explode.
Is it a Dell?

"It is virtually impossible to live without pretoleum based products"
you've got to be kidding me. this is like stockholm syndrome, except you appear to be holding yourself hostage.

How will this affect my children's future?

we don't have to live COMPLETELY without oil. but ffs, be let's responsible with it. an american will buy a house in the suburbs because it has a fucking skylight in the bathroom and some extra room to keep their junk, but not take into account that the place is 30 miles from their place of work.
"Here's the lead up: In the US per person consumption of gasoline is 428 gallons per year on average, while in Europe it is 59 gallons. Yes, the average US citizen uses 6.2 times more gasoline per person per year than does the average European resident."
- The oil and car companies funded and sold us the idea of the "american dream"... and everyone ate it up.iCanHasQBN
- I can't help but agree with all of this.Continuity

- yup, crank gas up to $6/gallon and we'll see a rapid change in this (and our deficit shrink), a gradual increase would be goodformed
- There was a time a few years ago, in Canada, where petrol was priced less per litre than milk. There's a serious problem with that picture.Continuity

BTW, FYI
soy bean plastic and corn plastic are fucking useless since this isnt a solid plastic... it cracks when you look at it.

Well, it's clear our modern life is dependent on plastics and oil. So - and yes, timeline, I know - this is one of the places where we need to start:
- Sadly, Big Oil will never allow this to become the norm. Just like they blocked non-combustion engine cars.Continuity

^you're missing the point.
we need to stop consuming. this goes beyond simply replacing oil made products.
- Continuity0
Abrupt cessasion of consumption would _probably_ spell the end of western civilisation. I shudder at the idea of what the consequences of that might, so we need to do it gradually, and reducing our dependence on drilling and exploitation of what's left of oil fields, and recycling what we've already produced and consumed is a good place to start, so that we can ease into a new way of life over time.
(This along with other practises.)
- as if "abrupt cessation" of consumption would ever be possible anyway.ephix

Isnt plastic made of oil? so its the same thing? And in order to power that thing, dont you need oil?
