Retro Vector Map?

Anyone know where I might find a jagged vector map of national borders? (Specifically a royalty-free Illustrator file?) Finding detailed vector maps isn't such a problem but I can't seem to find simpler, boxier ones. Ideally I'm seeking a map with straight lines—no curves. These two images get at the general idea :
Screen grab of DefCon :
Images from the movie War Games :
Mercator projection is best. Curved onto a sphere may also be useful.

I needed to do something similar recently - ended up using a normal vector map like this: http://blog.theflashblog.com/?p=…
..and then imported it into C4D and used hard interpolation. Can probably apply a similar transformation in Illustrator.

I'd suggest getting a normal one and dicking around with it in Illy - simplify/reduce points (not curves), then tweak problemmatic entities like Britain, Florida or Japan.
Someone posting their portfolio recently here did the m,anual for DefCon, so you might want to check recent (week) crit threads and drop him a line.
- Sorry, that last part was vague.
This guy..
http://www.qbn.com/t…detritus - Actually, fuck off my first idea - just tried it and you'd be better off doing it by hand, imo.detritus
- I did something like this years ago, and recall just VERY roughly tracing a normal map.detritus
- Timing it now - takes about 30seconds a continent to do manually :)detritus
- k, thta's a bit rough. Perhaps 2 mins a continent.detritus
- Sorry, that last part was vague.

Have you trawled through wikimedia yet?
Haven't had a proper look but they have stacks of world maps as SVGs. Might have one in there if you do enough digging:

ah, np stewdio - bizarrely, I've just happened upon a print mock up of the thing I used the map on. Hadn't touched the folder in question for over 2 years!

By the way, if you've not seen War Games (1983) you ought to. It's what inspired DefCon and a million other little gems.
