When I read the designer drugs thread http://www.qbn.com/topics/624993… I came to the question, if anyone here tried to alter his state of mind by his body's own powers (opposed to taking some drug) ... speaking of meditation, autosuggestion, excessive sports etc.
Experiences anyone?- Mar 18, 10, 5:25 a.m. – Permalink

I have a friend who meditates twice a day (when he wakes up in the morning and before going to sleep) for a half hour each. He swears by it.

I've been biking, running and weight training lately which totally alter's your body and overall state of mind; sleep better and more awake when you need to be.
Work goes smoother and creativity is higher because your body is better at either being "on" (awake) or "off" (asleep).
I've tried meditation but i'm too undiagnosed A.D.D. so some form of distraction always gets a hold of me before I reach any deep state of meditation / trance.

I always figured I would fall asleep if I tried it.
I have been doing yoga a lot more lately; the P90-x yoga video is ridiculous (if anyone has used that series of workouts) - wears out the body and helps focus the mind. the combination has really helped my mood and outlook.

I meditate as part of my karate training... it's very helpful.
While competing I can sometimes focus to a point where I literally cannot hear anything outside the ring. There have been one or two occasions in my life – before I started karate – where I have been attacked and the adrenalin rush has been enough to seemingly slow the passage of time. It's as if a switch is flicked and suddenly life looks like a 1000 or 2000 frame per second slomo.
I should incorporate meditation into more of my life, but I'm still learning to get the most out of it. I'm finding that the less rested I am the harder it gets to concentrate to the level necessary.

Meditation is nice, i did it for a shot while - the classic technique of counting the seconds as you breathe in and as you breathe out, then increasing the seconds to expand your breaths.
i used to do about 18 seconds breathing in and 18 seconds breathing out, i found that a nice sustainable level.
Generally the slower you breathe the more relaxed you are, the clearer you can think. I dont bother anymore though, Kung Fu, weights climbing (bouldering) and occasional interval sprint training are enough for me.

There is a difference between concentration and meditation. Martial arts takes concentration and calmness meditation is beyond what all our senses can experience. it is just on the other side of nothingness. Martial arts is a heightened sensitivity of our senses total opposite but aside from our senses you can really only concentrate on what you are doing and nothing else or you could get hurt.

One of my professors is an expert on Native American cultures and she spends a lot of time living on reservations and things like that... she said one of the chiefs smoked a shit load of salvia once (I forgot if it was for her or someone else) to see how where it brought him... he said it was strong stuff but he'd been on higher planes during meditation.

i've been going to a native american drum circle for a few years now. We always start with a semi-guided meditation, then you just get to do your own meditation, then the drumming starts. the drumming is super simple, no rhythm or beats, just a steady stream of hits. There have been times where the meditiations have been better than LSD. Its not for everyone but i endorse meditation.
