- ^This time will be different. LOLlemmy_k
- not leaking oil this time for sure lolmekk
- I'm gonna go with optimism... fingers crossed! ^_^ShaneHolley
- Looks like there'll be a secondary market for child chimney sweeps to work in.Nairn
- The future is all batteries. They can just get Panasonic to make them, like Tesla does. I hope they can make a come back.formed
- Let's not forget the Tesla roadster WAS a Lotus, so...there's that.zarb0z
- Lotus body only I believefooler
- It wasn't a Lotus, actually (I used to think it was, too)formed
- Lotus was involved in the development of the first Tesla Roadster, for their skills in aerodynamics and weight reductionmekk

- Nice - but why a Vette-Engine? Not a Jag or Aston? That would be classy.Longcopylover
- chevy crate motors are easy to buy off of the shelf, powerful, reliable, easy to work on and parts are easy to get if something breaks.fooler
- can you say any of those things about a British motor... HAHAHAHAHAHAfooler
- LS SWAP FOR DAYS!!BabySnakes
- Such a good combo, I kind of want to swap my Landy over before batteries take over.slappy
- If you want something reliable, easy to maintain, buy a bicycle.Longcopylover
- if you want to buy a range rover classic with out an engine swap, buy a bicycle. You're going to need a second mode of transportation when it's in the shop.fooler

- if u got carb questions - i'm here - cause much of the internet is littered with half-truths.pr2
- wish i had these skills to fix my mazdajaylarson
- it doesn't take much skills but it takes some reading to understand what the hell each part is really responsible for (manuals NOT internet forums).pr2
- That looks beautiful. But what's wrong with the Webers? I used to have them in my Alfa.Longcopylover
- Solex has 4 barrels - it idles and uses the small ones until around 3500rpm then the large secondaries kick in. = more precise fuel control.pr2
- Plus it has vacuum modulator (that large vacuum can at an angle) so it increases/decreases idle based on engine needs.pr2

- $250K for a coyote bronco is insane! The interior of that one is gross! I prefer their Sun Valley one...fooler

- Yeah, it's insane. That sun valley one is dope!kona
- I had one 20 years ago. Had to wear eye protectionn to keep the rust blowing around inside from getting in my eyes. Good times.lemmy_k

First vehicle made in Scotland in decades, the all-electric Munro MK1. It's perhaps a wee bit *too* brutal, but given the concessions the INEOS Grenadier had to make to Land Rover's legal department (boo), it's still quite cool, I think.
-
- Nice. it does look exceptionally long thoughIanbolton
- How exactly is this going to work thru those highlands without breaking in half or getting stuck?grafician
- i'm really not too sure about the point of ev 4x4s. given that they're designed to operate in the middle of nowhere how are you supposed to recharge them?hans_glib
- and try parking that fugly box in a willy low's recharge pointhans_glib
- Mmm, good point - I'd write them a letter - they might want to be warned about that before they go into production.Nairn
- I think the gains in efficiency and pure torque power vastly outweigh re-fueling in the field concerns. They've pre-sold 3k+ of these to US industrial companiesNairn
- dear munro,
your fugly ev-box is ill conceived, so you might want to rethink. also i get the s1 landy is iconic, but ffs get your own look, y'ken?
love hanshans_glib - does that read ok?hans_glib
- lol, actually I wrote that to graf before you posted, but it applies to you too :)Nairn
- If these are sold to the US, then yeah, ofc, that explains a LOTgrafician

I absolutely love the Rivian R1S. Easily my favorite EV out of all of them. A total "lust-for-it" car that I could never justify buying at $97k. It's also cool to see that they're made in Normal, Illinois, and that their "gear" includes a lot of branded and specialty products that you don't see many or any other EV car brands doing.
- Link to their gear shop with those products - https://rivian.com/g…mg33
- OverweightOBBTKN
- I love their truck, everything except the headlights!fooler
- They'll do well with these. $97k isn't much for a luxury SUV (or even a luxury car). We'll see how maintenance is in all these semi-exotic brands soon enough.formed
- My friend works for them and is trading in his T for the S. They're as nice as a range rover and as fast as a sports car.Frosty_spl
- They look like the baby car that a Ranger Rover and a new Bronco would have if they mated, and I love it for that reason.mg33
- Looks like a refrigerator on wheels.utopian
- its lovely from all angles except the front.. which looks completely shit.. is it supposed to be some emoji face or something?dee-dubs

- Im thinking about picking up a cheap MX5 and replicating this buildfooler
- but it'll always be a miatadirtydesign
- Do it. Great fun for the price. As long as it is a mk1.Longcopylover
- I never got the popularity of these - even when I was about 13, when they first came out, they were ridiculed as being something of a hairdresser's car.detritus
- It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.fooler
- Miatas get such a bad rep, but can get for cheap, light weight and easy to work on.BabySnakes
- I used to make fun of my friend that had one over 15 years ago. Now I think it will be a fun cheap project to work on and make myself an adult go-cart.fooler
- My friend is a sort of racer, and he only has good things to say about the Miata drivability and legacy of funmonospaced
- Apparently they can be turned into rad racers and are actually really well balanced.monospaced
- ya we give our buddy a hard time about his, but all in fun.BabySnakes
- The newer ones were more masculine.monospaced
- Great car just don't wreck in em.since1979
- Miatas are awesome, they were designed to be super balanced and enjoyable to drive. It is the Mazda philosophy and way.sofakingback

Hoping to get a new car in the next year. We've got a 2007 Passat 2.0T with only 52,000 miles on it. I love the size of it. We're not ready for an SUV yet; don't have the room in our garage alongside our neighbor's SUV and we're just not SUV people yet, even with a baby.
Current car lacks blue tooth - a $300 problem - that feels best solved with a new car. I've been holding out for Apple Car Play to arrive in more models. I don't think we'd consider much other than than the VW CC or an Audi A6. A4 seems smaller than current car. I can't think of any American cars I like enough to consider although someone did recently point out the Buick Regal to me and it looks like a great car.
Definitely want something with AWD, so the Audi Quattro packages are highly appealing.
Any suggestions?
- if you have an aux input you can add bluetooth for $15 http://smile.amazon.…scarabin
- Subaru?nb
- scarabin, unfortunately we don't. The Aux is used by an iPod dock in the glove box. I want bluetooth for music from my phone and hands free phone use.mg33
- buy a new head unit with gps and bluetooth.imbecile
- I forget the name... bluetooth through the radio via cigarette lighter/power port. Look on Amazon under bluetooth mp3 player for car. I got mine for about $30.lemmy_k
- The new A4 (Europe) is bigger than the Passat. But I don't know when you will get it in the US.
http://www.netcarsho…lnu - A6 all day. Got to drive one on a long drive recently. Very nice car. Lots of power, smooth ride.section_014
- Like set said, what about a Subaru? Best value out there, imo.section_014
- What about a (used) Merc E-Class? Huge boot, great AWD-System (4MATIC) and holds its value better than VWs and Audis. Which is actually the same.Longcopylover

Lamborghini presents the Countach LPI 800-4, the commemorative version celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic model that since 1971 has revolutionized forever the modern super sports car scene and inspired everything that has come afterwards, incarnating the summa of Lamborghini DNA.
https://www.lamborghini.com/en-e…
I love both; one of the first complex words I could spell when young was l-a-m-b-o-r-g-h-i-n-i.
- I'm usually a fan of lambo design, but this feels like a step backwards.section_014
- Do you feel it should have been more aggressively different OR more classic @section_014?ideaist
- i wish they'd added more retro-futuristic accentuated edges and contours in the body and retained the look of the iconic taillights. other than that i like it.SteveJobs
- The Miura prototype was soooo much nicer.formed
- The price is bonkers... BUT i feel like its a great homage to the original. if money was no issue i would buy one in a heatbeat. I too had the poster as a kidnecromation
- Reminder: It's never ok to say Lambo.CyBrainX

- Beauty. I drove one a few years ago and the sound is just contagious (in a good way). I would choose a different colour though. And add a stiffer chassis.Longcopylover
- Similar to this one I worked with a while ago: https://mir-s3-cdn-c…SimonFFM
- Sorry Simon, I don't see any car there. :)Longcopylover
- Confirmed. No car in that photo.CyBrainX

A good friend's just got his first car after passing his test last year.
I was - as a semi-autistic knowitall internerd twat - giving him some advice about gear changes - "don't be afraid to skip Second gear and go from First to Third sometimes" and "when you're in slow/stop heavy traffic, just start off in Second, it's easier".
Turns out the second one's terrible advice, as it wears down the clutch faster. I never knew!
I wonder how many other bad driving habits I have?
- if you rev the engine just right you can change gears with no clutch ;)renderedred
- except 1st and r of courserenderedred
- save on break pads, down shift to slow your car.shapesalad
- can't find it...grind itutopian
- Yeah, those are pretty bad. Turns out they designed the gears to go 1...2...3...4...5... figure!formed
- shapesalad, that's old advice. break pads are cheaper than a new gearbox so new advice is just to use breaks...microkorg
- ... however downgearing is damn fun when you have a performance exhaust system ;)microkorg
- Going from 4th to R at high speeds is also never advisable!futurefood
- R is fo Racing!robotron3k
- @formed - there's nowt wrong with skipping a gear going up or down though, if you want or need to.Nairn

- '58...very nice! I don't even mind the modern rims on it.GM278
- Incidentally, I have a 58 grill in my El Camino (although I'm contemplating going back to the SS grill)GM278
- I dig the grill you have on the El Camino.BabySnakes

thanks for the donut channel Imbecile, I'm in a car rabbit whole all morning lol
here's my all-time favourite car, great little piece on it, this guy's great.
- fuck! if I only had $200,000 laying around I could have had one! lol https://www.motoraut…_niko

- this one will be slightly cheaper...

- yay! another fugly 4x4 to crush cyclists with!hans_glib
- it's totally electric with a range of 400 milesimbecile
- looks good but the idea of electric 4x4 is laughable.pr2
- the first squad car ever was electric, in 1899. big oil stifles electric development. your love for emissions and doubt in electricity are laughableimbecile
- pretty dope. i usually get cheap cars, but i dream of driving something like this. maybe in 15 years.bezoar
- @pr: no it's not because electricity gives massive torque.hans_glib
- @imbecile: i know it's electric but it's still ugly and will still be driven by idiots who won't see cyclistshans_glib
- as someone who owned an electric scooter (in the city - meaning plenty of access to electricity) i can tell u that it isn't fun.pr2
- If we're generalizing, the same cyclist who run stop lights and weave through traffic ignoring traffic laws, harassing pedestrians? those cyclists?imbecile
- You can't equate messenger cyclists with recreational cyclists that head to the mtns to ride. We have both, everywhere. Apples/oranges.formed
- Silent is what will kill the cyclists, like they are already killing civilians (no sound).formed
- oh, but i can. cars kill those driving other cars, why all the cyclist sympathy?imbecile
- and statistically, very large trucks are responsible for a very large percentage of vehicle & cyclist accidents leaving cars and suvs with little harm to ridersimbecile
- Hopefully they built electric cars with enough capability to spot cyclists/pedestrians before the driver does.slappy
- This includes not allowing doors to open if a cyclist / vehicle is within an unsafe distance, or at least an audible warning etc to stop car-doorings..slappy
- Drive safe. Watch for cyclists. And, if i have the money in 2020, this would be a top contender. 11,000 lbs tow? Matte grey plzBrokenHD
