I notice that there are a few companies ('Obey', 'Urban Outfitters'), that leisurely redesign/restructure vintage-bought apparel, mark-up the price, then resell them.
I wanted to start designing on bowling bags and reselling them.

i googled and found this.. skimmed it over slightly and saw there might be part of your answer in it or at least more of a direction..

i know there is roughly 7-10 changes that must be done in order for a legal change. ive seen the legality on this somewhere to what are the specific changes that must be done..

when you mentioned the above UrbanOutfiters and i hate to defend them OBEY, i think you mis understand their product.

they arent purchasing pre designed products and altering them for resale.. they have either an in house design team or outsource to a product designer to make it happen to what ever their design is..

if that is what you want there is i said a very large market for this...
if you wish to do it yourself.. how much money are you thinking to make this happen or is it you plan to alter a pre-designed product and give to a local boutique on consignment?

if you are going though to mass produce an idea from scratch..

the world is yours.. even if you copy.. which it happens a lot.. you can still produce your idea.. just have to suck up the lawsuit.. pay your fees and whome ever is suing you as your profits are yours..

read this lil article on this exact topic known as the Piracy Paradox
    http://www.newyorker.com/talk/fi…

can you describe how you wish to accomplish your goals?

    thanks..

I love that you titled this thread "?"
