  I'm trying to help a friend of mine setup a website that allows the customer to purchase mp3 tracks on his website. What's the best way to do this?

  if you want exposure:
  iTunes

  if you want to make more money:
  custom system that will allow him to keep a bigger % per track

  Either way, most indie musicians are not making any money from mp3s these days, you have to go and play out, that's where the money is.. if any..

  commercial licensing can be profitable if you have a strong contract with royalties, and the track gets a lot of airplay

  they dont take money from you like itunes etc do.
  you have to do your own PR though.
  you can integrate their page onto your site too.

  you can set prices or allow fans to decide how much they will pay.
