Toyota said Thursday that a software problem is causing problems with the brakes, although it has yet to announce a recall while it studies the problem further.

It scares me that a piece of computer hardware/software could affect a car's braking ability. It wasn't always like this.
- Yet, the computer assisted breaking, when functioning perfectly, is a safety featuremonospaced

If there's been a way to build it
There'll be a way to destroy it
Things are not all that out of control

so how close are we now do you think until someone will be able to bluetooth a trojan to all the cars in a shopping mall parking lot at once, rendering them useless?...
- I think it's an option from OnStar already.Mimio

i was watching cnn last night thinking about this and the way things are going, it's cheaper to control things with software so eventually everything probably will be, cars I mean, and then what sort of exploits are we going to see then?...
- Painfully expensive registration fees on "classic" vehicles.waterhouse

Haven't heard much about car hacking. There's a lot of robust protocols in place governing remote starters, door locks etc.

Take it from me, when you crash high-end vehicles into other cars and walls, they stop working well. Sensors all get f*cked up and the computer in your car itself just goes beserk and doesn't want to let the car drive. Not good.

The dealer was showing me how to switch all the systems off so in real weird driving conditions (stuck in grass, mud etc, ) you can switch the traction control(DTC) off so the systems won't fight each other.
- that's almost like steptronics. Automatic to Standard, etc.********
