Neck deep in FFXV. About 10 hours in. God the combat sucks! Its all real time, and often times you not only have your 3 buddies running all around, no idea what theyre doing, but also 5+ enemies darting around the screen. Cant tell what hell youre attacking or where you are being attacked from since there is no indicator of when an enemy is actually going to attack you. It just becomes a mess of pixels everywhere. Very poorly designed. Worst FF battle system. It only really works well against bosses, which are usually by themselves. As soon as they add other enemies to the mix, fucking disaster battle system.
But I love everything else about it. The characters are actually pretty great, which I wasnt expecting. Graphics and the world are great. Being able to buy previous FF soundtracks and play them in the car and cell phone in game is awesome. The main and side missions are for the most part interesting. Story is dumb as hell. Typical of most JRPGs I guess.
- I heard you can set the combat to pause until you do an action..mekk
- how can you even get past the embarrassing character designs? they went full retard.inteliboy
- ya, this game has full retard written all over itMilan
- is it set in the modern world? i keep seeing screens of modern settings and charactersscarabin
- Luckily you can change the outfits and make them less like a male version of Baby Metal.face_melter

FF15 defaults to active mode, but you can change it to wait mode. I actually usually have it on that most of the time. Not sure why it defaults to active. In wait mode it tells you the enemies weaknesses. In active mode, you need to unlock the skill for ignis to scan them, and he is absurdly slow at it so theres no good reason to use active mode. Another poor design decision.
The characters are surprisingly good. They look dumb, but within 5 mins of starting the game you realize they are kinda normal dudes that like each other and have known each other for a long time, and the stand by me song starts playing, hard not to like them. The battle system though works, but its kinda trash.
- After watching a few Twitch streams, I have to roll back my initial cynicism - it does look like great fun, especially the exploring which intrigues me the mostface_melter

- After Sony closed the studio who made the originals the subsequent in-house versions ended up as bad copies. 2097 remains the best, in my opinion.face_melter

@face_melter Sony also announced an Uncharted 4 Story DLC (Stand alone!) and a Crash Bandicoot 1-3 remake:
- Uncharted always kinda bored me, no real interest. TLoU is a much better example of how ND can tell a story with great pacing and characterisation.face_melter

Ive started to like FF15 more. The characters were great from the start, as are the graphics and everything else. I had problems with the battle system, mainly the camera which is a disaster, but over time you start to not mind it as much.
It is fun to play, it just gets really hard to see what the hell is going on half the time. It would have benefited from a camera that was more overhead rather than being ground level with all this fuckery going on all over the screen, but you start to get better at adjusting it on the fly. Definitely way more tricky than most games ive ever played due to how the battle system works and requires such perfect timing and precision to be good at.
The game legit feels like real Final Fantasy though, which 13 really didnt. It has lots of towns, shops, npc's with a shit ton of sidequests, actual real dungeons like the old FF games, all kinds of fun items and gear to find, elite weapons that boost your stats at the end of some of the dungeons. Its good stuff. Idk if its 10 years development time good, but its still a very solid FF games and seems like a return to form for the franchise.
That fucking camera tho.... lol

I have to say though Ignis might be one of the better videogame characters in recent memory. Hes one of the best parts of the game for me.
Hes like this really proper polite fancy pants euro dude that loves to cook, and is all worried about Noctis' shirt button thats broken, and reminds him about it at absurd times. Hes is legit funny. The dialogue between all the characters is really well done. Uncharted level.
