In another episode of Steve Jobs' "Late to the Game" reviews, I'm now playing Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag for PS4
Having just polished off Tomb Raider, who's play mechanics were absolutely spot-on, this game offers the absolute definition of a love-hate game relationship. I love the period this game explores and the pirate theme, and the open world game play.. even the story is decent so far. Reminds me a little of what I loved so much about Red Dead Redemption. But the play mechanics of this game have had me quite nearly throwing my controller in frustration. The character seems to have a mind of his own on chase sequences, for example, and wants to cling to buildings or other elements when you're just wanting him to run his ass off. The battle system was also poorly done for a game of this size. When fighting multiple enemies I find myself resorting to futile button mashing when the sequences I've been learning seem to have no effect. Even the ship battle sequences seem broken. I've just left Havana which was so beautifully presented so I'm still early into the game but if those things could have been done better this, for me, would have been an much higher score for me: A begrudged A-
- I enjoyed this one a loternexbcn
- same. i've played every edition of the series and each one seems to have a slightly different level of "stickiness" when it comes to climbing and stuff. it canscarabin
- be quite maddening when you run up a wall or something when you're just trying to chase someone down a streetscarabin
- also im not sure if it was this one or not but in most creed games you can parry an attack and auto-kill them without having to just bludgeon people to deathscarabin
- with your sword. saves a lot of time and button mashingscarabin
- scarabin, I think you're right and I'm not sure I've mastered that technique yet which is probably why I'm frustrated.SteveJobs

- why are gamer dorks so obsessed with 60fps? even going down to 30fps is liveable. it's a console game, not a professional PC LAN tournament.inteliboy
- i rarely get more than 30. usually playing in the mid to low 20s -- and i suck at every game I play so maybe there's something to it.Gnash
- at least it would make me feel better to blame something other than my abilityGnash
- when did darth vader ever run?cannonball1978
- Weyland2
- LOL, from the Imgur comments: "My computer would take a shit, then explode, if I whisper to it that I want to install this mod. Please, please provide a video"elahon
- "It looks so real that it almost looks fake"ETM
- "The mod drains around 30-40 FPS." - means that on my computer the game will probably run backwards...ETM

Soo I bought SW: Battlefront and it's quite fun. I made the mistake and compared it to BF4/BF3 but it's a completely different game.
+ Graphics
+ Fast Gameplay
+ Uncomplicated
+ Fun Dogfight modes- No teamplay elements, such as revives etc
- almost no communication between players, no tactics etc
- Imbalanced Air Combat mode, Rebels always win with OP Millenium FalconOverall it's OK to good, a bit more content would be nice and servers with varying game modes. And maybe one or two teamplay elements that go with the fast gameplay, maybe support droids or slight buffs..
- yeah, its good fun, a solid start that can get better with updates/dlcBluejam

Welp, this is why you do not buy console versions of these games. Graphics mod currently in development to make it look more like the original trilogy.
- PS4 and X1 would MELT trying to run this.CygnusZero4
- This same guy did the graphics mod for GTA5 which was incredible.CygnusZero4
- He used to work for Blizzard.CygnusZero4
- The original trilogy 2 posts ago?MrT
- didnt see it homieCygnusZero4
- Big fucking whoop. PS4 can't handle these kinds of graphics, but the game is still fun as hell to play. I don't want to hear airplane fans running when I play.elahon
- Super HD Timeline.fadein11
- This is impressive considering he only has a QA/localization background which doesn't involve much, if any, coding-related work.SteveJobs
- Then again, I don't know what I'm looking at here. Do these represent game engine lighting tweaks or simple re-skin? Would like to see side-by-side comparison.SteveJobs
- the game already looks great as is. cool to see it pushed even further.inteliboy
- i do think i'm in love with the frostbite engine.inteliboy
- to SteveJobs: it's lighting and the color grading by fooling the game to use certain post processing shaders basiclyWeyland
- Looks real, like nerds dressed up in the desert.monospaced
- It looks better than the iPad version.MrT
- nice troll attempt, elahon; https://www.youtube.…mekk
- I'm not trolling, I just think the kind of PC that will run these graphics will need a dedicated AC unit and not worth it. Console versions are just fine IMO.elahon
- It's cost prohibitive too. The advantage of PC's is the availability of decent games to play more so than to run some behemoth that can support those graphics.jtb26
- Still. Looks great though.jtb26

"this is why you do not buy console versions of these games".
Some of us peasants don't have a monster PC to play games, Battlefront is great on consoles, it's the most polished game released by DICE ever. Battlefield 4 at launch was shit, including corrupting your saved game if the game crashed, which it did a lot.

Soo another ten hours into SW Battlefront and it looks like I'm already done with it.
- Awful Spawn points, way too far from the objectives
- Unclear objectives, you never know if your team is doing good or bad, you don't know what to do
- Bad map design, stuck everywhere, imbalanced
- No longer term gameplay content, after ten hours the best equipment was found and upgraded, no need to do anything beyond. Ten hours later nearly everything was unlocked and upgraded.Disappointing game, yet fun sometimes.
Oh and ernexbcn - quit your bullshit already you don't need a $2000 PC to play games. SW Battlefront runs fine in 1080p60 on a $600 machine, saving you all the online fees and gives you access to way more even cheaper games. Just look it up outside of IGN.

Where have all the 4 player split screen games gone? Do gamers not have real friends anymore?
- what's a friend? can i download it? is there an app for it?SteveJobs
- I know, we finally have TVs large enough for split screen and it no longer exists.ETM
- it's tough even finding decent co-op games to play with my girl. multiplayer nowadays means online onlyscarabin
- A few recomendations: Towerfall Ascension, Chariot, Helldivers, Lovers in dangerous spacetime and Meltdown to name a fewNutter
- Thanks nutter - love Towerfall - will try those others out!inteliboy
- There are loads more, Crawl should also be good, else look here: http://store.steampo…Nutter

Trials Fusion is a right laugh. Not exactly a complete answer to your question tho...

Bought an xbone specifically for Fallout 4 because I love the franchise and have played all of them.
Haven't played videogames since 3.
Yeah ... videogames. They are ok. Just ok. I really don't understand why they can't pay some of their money to hire decent writers though, it's really frustrating that something with that big of a budget and profit still churns out derivative C-grade plotlines and dialog.
Very little innovation going on in that industry, still.
- videogames must be worse than hollywood when it comes to a "bureacracy of ideas", so no surprise there...docpoz
- It's like a client who has "we don't need to spend money on photography."Hayoth
- played any Naughty Dog games? Their stuff whilst based in genre, is up there if not better than most hollywood movies.inteliboy
- though besides from that - yep, games remain cringe worthy as soon as a character starts talking. so much for the "next generation" that was promised.inteliboy

FIFA 16 is pretty fun, but EA found a legal loophole where they get kids of all ages to gamble with real money through a videogame by opening player packs.

I swear, gameplay and content aside, this is one of the most visually arresting games I've ever seen and assuming this trailer is all in-game footage, that's not about to change. wow. high-def, full screen a must:
Star Wars Battlefront: Battle of Jakku
- In reality it still looks and feels like a 1st person shooter. The camera shaking and heavy breathing is not like that in-game. You can watch gameplay for days.monospaced
- But still, it is visually totally incredible, and one of the best I've seen too.monospaced
- my wife informed me that I can't get the game cuz the motion will make her vomit :( can you turn that down in the settings? cuz it's waaay too wobbly.PonyBoy
- I remember getting motion sickness with one of the original doom games but never experienced to the same level since. It's definitely not fun.SteveJobs
- no single player story mode? go suck a dick. i was bored of call of duty 8 years ago.CygnusZero4
- Nearly bought a console just for this game but so many videos show such repetitive gameplay realised novelty would wear off in 2 weeks tops...fadein11
- SteveJobs0
- What the ... and where is it used?MrT
- No idea. Maybe the scripting and/or runtime technology is being licensed now somehow for console use but no clue how it's leveraged or what for.SteveJobs
- it's probably used for the game menusMilan
- maybe the ship cargo/battle minigamescarabin
- there's an ios app that ties into itscarabin
- Aye, I seem to recall being surprised a few years ago that front-end Game UIs were often done in Flash.detritus
- yeah it's the UIernexbcn
