  Can anyone add their thoughts on the ambitions of Sydney and Melbourne as cities?

  You always hear is that Melbourne is for artistic and cultural ambitions and Sydney is for ambitions of power and commerce.

  Can anyone flesh these out a bit more with personal observations (rather than hearsay)?
