Well, one of the biggest mistakes a lot of architecture firms made last year was overhiring (esp. Jr. level) to maintain their image, but having no plan to keep them employed for more than 6 months to a year. The layoffs were almost apocalyptic in the arch industry... I don't know how that carries over to design, but I would hope/expect agencies to approach it cautiously, even if they have the cash to tack on a few more employees immediately.

In a normal year, yes. This year it just means they won't fire absolutely everyone, they'll leave 1 or 2 people.

Yeah, I was just wondering cuz I was called by my CD that laid me off last year to go back.... also, a couple other agencies hit me up in the last few weeks as well. Not sure how to take it. I think they're just getting geared up to hire some more designers and are calling everyone on their lists.

    • i was called too.... so im hopefulmegE1/2
In that case, good luck to both of you!ismith2/2

we should be doing everything we can to inspire confidence in the economy. For most of us, helping companies sell product is our job. So, we should be helping our own jobs by building consumer and business confidence - that, after all, is pretty much our role in the economy.

we can directly effect our own jobs in this way (even if it is a small way)

    • oh, and the US Prez still thinks we should be HOPEful.Amicus1/2

I couldn't find the other thread...

We're looking for a Junior Environmental Graphic Designer in Toronto (must have Envt experience)

    email me for details

    • ha, ha - I love how people aren't being too specific these days....Jnr Environmental Graphic Designer....come on!!!CodenameAM1/3
      why? confused?megE2/3
Maybe it's me...but how many Graphic designers specialize in the environment?? As i said, it seems a bit "specific". A graphic designer should beable to lend his/her hand to any project and research it...maybe it's me? Good luck.CodenameAM3/3
